I hope global warming comes soon because I like it warmer. We're looking at 27 degrees in the morning. We just got our HVAC system updated and we spent a week without any heat other than little electric heaters. I don't mind sweating a little more in the summer.

Not really, only every decade or so, at least ones bad enough to block roads and cut off electric for days. Looking forward to those again are you?

The good thing about KY winters is when we get a snow, even a 2' shut down kind it usually warms up in a couple days and is gone. Then we get to enjoy mud season. I'm old enough to remember winters when it mostly stayed frozen, which was better for the cows but then you get a warm day and the top of mud thaws and it's like walking on snot.

O I sent out some fender emblems to a fellow YouTuber to see if he could make some cool Aluminum Fender Emblems.

Check it out. You just might like it.

Well, today, similar to quite a few days now, I wondered how it has been so long since I hit a tree that had fallen across the local highway (August 2019), and why I haven't been able to get the truck back on the road in that time.

Sorry I didn't do anything more exciting.

Late Happy Thanksgiving and early Merry Christmas to folks.

Finally started addressing my alternator not charging at idle. Unhooked the internal reg and hooked the external back up and it was way worse. Guess I am finally gonna start looking at a replacement. Seems the LN might be the only reliable option. Truck doesn't get driven much anymore since I got the 09. However the 09 has been far less reliable than my 1st gen ever has.

Check the brushes in the alternator.

If you're using an external VR then make sure you have a genuine Mopar unit. The chinesium you get at O'reilly's don't work right. Also make sure you have good battery voltage at the VR and the Alternator field. The internal wiring of these trucks gets wonky and will present a low voltage at the VR and field when it comes from the ignition switch. I and others have installed a relay to get full battery voltage to the VR and field. The previous wire from the ignition switch goes to the coil of the relay to activate it so you only get voltage when the key is on.

As always make sure the case of the VR has a good ground. I use a separate wire and don't rely on the screw to the body grounding of the case. Good grounding of everything is often overlooked when troubleshooting electrical gremlins.

Yeah, it definitely is. Before I switched to the internal regulator I had an external mopar reg on a relay that was grounded directly to the battery and #2 gauge cables routed to the battery. When I did switch to internal regulation, I kept my external one on a harness so I could just install it easily if the internal unit failed (my first one did after 3 days). Just thinking that 29 years might be a long time for an alternator lol

It's possible the VR has gone bad or the alternator is fritized. Possibly your local auto parts store can test the alternator or a trusted shop might be better. Diodes can go bad at any time. Especially if you have had to jump start the motor. Transient surges can zap the diodes.

I've had Ol' Patches in the shop for some long over due repairs...been driving my Mom's little Jeep Renegade in the mean time.

What did you do to your Gen 1 today?-6rqgkrwh.jpg

Her car had been sitting at my brother place for almost a year after she passed away and my brother wanted it moved so I brought it home when I went down to look after some Will and Estate issues. A few weeks after that there was some major flooding and the whole area where I snapped that pic was under 6'-8' of water! Glad I got it home or it would have been a write off!

At Home...

I've been taking lots of pics of the work I've been doing, just haven't had time to update yet....will get to it eventually.

Opened up the hood on the 89 that's been sitting a few months and sprayed down the injectors so next spring I can pull them out and have them rebuilt along with sending in the injection pump to get it resealed and tested.

I'm a tall guy...6'8" and that little Jeep has a ton of room in it....one of the very few new cars I've ever been in that I didn't feel like I was squeezing myself into a sardine can! I actually had to move the seat up one position from all the way back because I was to far away from the steering wheel, and it has lots of leg room as well. The rear passenger compartment suffers a bit though with all the room afforded the driver and passenger front seats. So if you are of giant proportions and need a new car I would highly recommend the Jeep Renegade.
