Was wondering if someone would comment on my ESSAY's. Started reading some of my posts and sure enough, I tend to be a little long winded. Bad habit, I guess, from teaching step by step procedures to apprentices in lecture form...I tend to type a "lecture".
Promse I'll kp it shrt frm nw, mving frwrd

I'm using the diesel kleen antigel/winterizer while i'm up here in the great white north. also turned my idle up about 100 rpm.

I have about 800 miles left and it's only getting colder the farther northwest i travel. Good news is I'll have my new bed and front fenders on in the next 2 weeks.

question for y'all on advancing timing. My timing is stock, doing a lot of highway driving, would it help me to advance my timing a bit? truck doesn't like to go much faster than 65 and all this highway driving is actually giving me worse mileage. only averaged ~17 mpg on this trip so far.
I'd go with the M&H timing spacer....that should net you better mileage on the hwy cruising.

Got the new PRW flexplate today.

I'm kind of irritated by what I received. The plates holes where the torque converter is bolted is made IMO incorrectly. The bolt holes are press stamped through the steel in the outer section of the plate. Not only is ther excess steel left behind causing sharp protruding edges around the holes, but the holes are funnel shaped in the steel surrounding each hole.. Really messed up quality control issue, I do think

Oh, that's right. Box says made in China

Picked up some new parts...a new pulley for the old 93 belt tensioner (I used the old one off my 89 motor to get back up and running), and a new NSK fan hub bearing (just in case).

I plan on swapping my diff fluids, and transfer case fluid in the next couple days....going to synthetic.

Did a few things on the crewcab today.

I swapped out the vacuum/PS pump assembly...again. I tossed in the old leaking set-up from my donor 93 when the 2nd Gen PS pump cooked after 4 days powering the hydroboost set-up. This PS pump did not work all that well when it was just power the steering box...turned out that the internal filter was virtually plugged solid!

I took the big nut off the back of the PS pump...where the high pressure line threads into...and pulled out the spring and check valve/screen assembly. Cleaned it really well and re-installed.

Here's what it looks like apart...

You need to clamp the outer housing in something...without damaging the outer bore since it is a piston. Then spin out the center filter....make sure you measure the overall size and re-install at the same measurement. I believe you can alter the hyd pressure by either turning it in/out? Also don't forget to red lock tight the screen in place.

I also installed a passenger side grab handle....complete write up here.

I also swapped out the dino gear oil in the rear diff for synthetic. The stuff I drained out was all frothy/foamy...never seen that before? This is the fluid the guy who did my diff work put in....so not sure why it was like this?

And a new set of wiper blades!

Well the oil I drained from my rear diff is still foamy today...even after sitting in the heated garage all night, and today. Here's what it looks like.....any idea why it would stay all foamy like that?

TC, I've always wanted to put one of those in, but could never locate a source that sells them locally. What company did you purchase that Beckson DP40-B?

Haven't done anything to the old gal yet today, letting her relax after the 15 hour 700 mile drive from SE Colorado to Northern Utah. Thank you Wyoming weather.

I do need go to the folks place and use the shop so I am out of the snow, I have a vibration that can be felt in the floor at 65 plus only under acceleration. Just what I wanted to do on my vacation from work, was work on the truck.

Does anyone else ever want a vacation from working on this old iron, or is it just me?

You might get one cheaper from one of the marine supply houses, like West Marine.
