I'll see if I can't capture one in its collapsed position to determine positioning when closed and the other, extended, for when open. All I would need then are some of the ball-end hardware they clip to.
You ever notice that the ram's head on the hood is only really looking straight ahead when the hood is up?

Did you ever notice that when a ram rams, his head is down?

Yeah. I just thought it was funny since, I spend so much time with the hood open, that that's the only way I ever see the guy. At least when I'm leaned over the grille, looking down, he's looking ahead.

I'm not following for some reason. Can you elaborate?

If I can't come up with anything, then yes, I'd be looking for some. I should've swapped hinges with the '91.5 parts truck I had before I sold it.

I suggest that you set up the pivot points so that you go over center when closed. . .
Most gas lift applications compensate for the fact that the lifting force is quite variable with temperature by having the force be greater than required to lift the panel, and by having the pivots oriented such that when the panel is closed, the struts are actually holding it closed slightly (or are "over center", center being where the strut is neither pushing open nor closed, but bound by the geometry of the pivots).

On further reflection, however, I'm not sure how well this would work with the stock hood latch, and humbly withdraw the suggestion.

That is what I was thinking…
Easy enough to replace them, and I know where a few spare sets are.

ya, I didn't think they were hard to come by which is kind of why i made the suggestion.

that and the struts are weak and wear out much faster than hinge springs, in my experience. I just bought a new set for this '03 I'm working on. wish i would have found some heavier ones from a different application. no way would those lift a 1st gen hood.

Those are the type I'd prefer. They were on the parts truck I had. I'm kicking myself for not swapping them when I still had it.

I might have a set if you're still looking in a few weeks. I can set them aside for you. (I say a few weeks because I have a few weeks of classes left before I get started on the trucks)

I have a lot of work this do on this thing before I get to the body. The plan is to swap hinges when I do a birdbath hood swap.So I am in no hurry. Just one of those things I am keeping an eye out for Thanks.
Good luck on your finals

Cleaned up and repaired some rats nest wiring under the dash.

Why do you do the things you do, previous owner?

Well I have been wanting a canopy of some sort for the crewcab. Did not really want a solid/hard shell unit, but what else was there....well one day I happened across a Tacoma with a canopy called a Softopper. So I searched to their website and knew this is what I was looking for. So finally a week or so ago I ordered one up...with the wife's blessing....Thanks Hon!

Picked it up last Sunday, and took about 90 min to install it.

Their claims of folding and unfolding it in under 5 minutes is true. I was helping my Mother move on Sunday, and this worked great. All the small boxes and stuff inside the canopy for the first load, then the second load was big mattresses and furniture etc. So I just folded it forward and had a box with 90% of it's previous room!
