What did you do to your Gen 1 today?
I will be very local. If your are going to be in the area Chip, swing in for a beer if you can.
My sister is going to be in town for Thanksgiving for 5 days.
My Christmas plan is to take a little time off with my daughter out of school and see what I can get lined up for getting "Moonshine" headed back together.
The Ramcharger is front and center in the shop, stacked to the top of the ceiling with parts in boxes. I would like to see it on the road next summer.
I will start with giving the motor some new gaskets and seals. Then I will head to figuring out the turbo and intake set up I will need to make.

Well, this is nothing special compared to what some of you folks have done and contributed to this thread, but I changed out my transfer case fluids, and like most of the stuff I do to this rig, fought that one till the bitter end. As I'm wiping off 2 year old gear oil off of my forearms, I ask myself "feel good? Yes, I do" kinda weird that I'm striking conversations with myself, but hey, all long term fluid changes are done, at least for a long while (Differentials, transfer case, and ATF). I gotta say, though, I work on my truck DAILY. Wether it's tightening up a battery cable or rechecking a torque value, DAILY!! Maybe we should start a thread "What didn't you do to your first gen today?" Laugh all you want, but I guarantee that thread would get 5 replies back- max. I say that cause I know you all do the same amount if not more, in maintenance as me

Little off topic....but since I mentioned him in the last week or so thought I'd update on the new dog. Well he had to be put down last night.
He turned on my 13 year old daughter and grab her face and shook her by the face. I was getting ready for bed and all of a sudden head screaming, then more screaming and my wife joined in on the screaming....came dashing out to find my daughter on the floor with blood pouring out of her face. Thank goodness for my industrial and first aid training in the past...stay calm and asses the situation.
Wife was hysterical...told her in a calm and forceful voice to put the dog away (he was very concerned about what happened...he had no idea), then get me paper towels and call 911. Daughter was asking if she was going to die...checked her out quickly...some major facial lacerations, one major one right below her eye..."just" missed the eye! few other punctures and lacerations....she'll be OK!!!
Got pressure on the major wounds to help stop the bleeding, got some clothes on, grabbed the dog and tossed him in the crate and locked it. Ambulance showed up and we took a ride to the hospital.
They Had to call in a plastic surgeon to stitch her up, but she was one tough cookie, very proud of her. Don't think she shed a tear all evening, but when I told her the dog would be gone when we got home, she cried.
Wife called the shelter and explained what happened, and they told her to bring the dog down. They put it to sleep right away. We did not tell my daughters this though....enough trauma for now.
Here she is after all fixed up at the hospital....

Wife said the Dog just turned on her for no reason, no growling, no warning other then a slight twitch in his jowls just a second before he grabbed my daughters face. Thankfully she blacked out for the attack...all she remembers is one second she was sitting beside the dog, next she was on her knees looking at the blood pouring from her face!
She's doing well today, in good spirits...should be being doped up on morphine all day.
Should make a good recovery.

I'm so sorry for your daughters pain and suffering. I hope she will recover fully without any scarring. Keep us posted as to how she is.
Man... That sucks

Rescue dogs that have unknown past can take several months to several years to be established in a new home (pack). Some cannot be integrated at all. My buddy took in a sheepdog as a rescue but after months of training, and attempting to mesh the dog with him and his wife, it began to become aggressive towards him. He's 6- 7. @ 240 lbs, and they had to send him back. He eventually was placed with a single man, no kids or wife. He's fine there.
It took me 2 years to break my adopted 6 year old beagle of her aggressiveness with food sand being told what to do. She's fine now, but there were times I thought I was going to return her as well. Her history was unknown until I adopted her at 6 years old.
Really a shame about his daughter. I hope she gets better soon

Holy shiznit Brian! That is just nasty! Good thing that you stayed calm and with the moments so that everyone and everything got taken care of. I hope that your daughter heals well and that she doesn't suffer any long term trauma. Yes, too bad about the dog though. Best wishes to your daughter and the rest of your family.

Wow, what a price to pay to be kind to a dog.
Been there, only my cat was the recipient of the clamp and shake attack some dogs are noted/bred for. Lovable pit bull showed up in my yard. Planned to feed it and advertise a found dog. The dog attacked my cat, unprovoked and with no warning at all. I happened to be there, Viet Nam era training kicked in and I attacked the dog and choked it out with my bare hands, then executed it. Cat made it, but was severely traumatized by the ordeal.
The dog's owner was sent to me by a neighbor. We had a fairly long but friendly discussion about the dog. It was an adopted dog. Didn't get along too well at his brother's, seemed to be ok with him. It had a history of attacking the neighbor's animals, and bit his grand daughter once. He was bummed the dog was gone, but understood.
One has to question why a good looking 2 year old dog winds up at the shelter to begin with.
