Anti Monkey Butt

No monkey needed. Just pick up a tube of 3M Super Weather Strip Adhesive (3M part number 08001). It's kind of like liquid duct tape...you can fix just about anything with the proper color of monkey snot. Yellow sticks better than black.

Anti-monkey butt is to remove the monkey snot I think...

Got the fuel filter changed today, I tried to change it several weeks ago but the threads were bad where the WIF/drain threads in, which messed up the threads on the drain... After I fixed the plastic threads I put the old filter back on. Today I was looking for my 400ex repair manual and found another new filter in the garage and I'm good to go

Reinstalled my external voltage reg since my internal one fell apart. When I put the internal reg in, I also rewired the alt with 2ga wire (+ and grnd). With the external reg my charging rate was 14.85, now it is 14.40. Kinda neat.

Of course, now the external reg quit, works for 1/2 a second when I plug the regulator in, then quits charging.

You are overthinking this.

Focus on grounds, rather than larger gauge hot wires (which just help with a short to ground).

I have 2 gauge grounds AND hot running to the the alt, and a 10ga ground to the case of the regulator.

Have you checked for clean mounting points on paint + voltage drop/resistance?

Field circuit on alternator?

At 14.8 and 14.4, I would load test the battery as well.

If yes, then get a known good/quality new VR and go from there.

I did all of those things except load test the batteries. We have a nice tester at work that I will try monday. Batteries are 4 years old now. My batteries are wired in parallel with 0/2 cable. I had the alt + and alt grnd on each battery before, now I have each cable hooked to one battery. Not sure if that could have caused an issue, maybe if one battery was going bad.

I did put a new reg

I simply could not go any longer without some type of cup holder. I built a small bracket out of aluminum and was able to fasten it to the bottom of my bench seat. The cup holder is a GM part. Actually well made. The best part of the design is the cup holder moves with the seat.

Life is good.

cheers
Doug

Best mod I have done to the truck.

Just finished spraying all the machinery with used JD-HyGard, and decided to do the old beater.

11 gallons of some high falutin saltwater proof, dielectric rated seaplane float spray...I did what the commercial antirust boys do & drilled, fogged & plugged.

Fogged between all double sheetmetal skins, sprayed the engine bay, inner fenders, the chassis, diffs, spring packs, fender wells, insides of the bumpers, cables, adjusters, you name it, it got sprayed.

Please do tell more about this... First, where did you get the hy gard? changing fluids in tractor or something? Second, how are you spraying it? garden sprayer? Last, how often do you apply the used oil?
