Swapped on my winter tires a couple days ago, man it's so much smoother now. I had been running a set of old used Toyo's I picked up super cheap in the spring (about 50% tread).....paid $80 for the set, and wore them down to almost nothing. I probably got more then 30K km's on them....not bad.
When winter ends, are you going to go with that same Toyo tire? I've never owned a Toyo in my life. Always gone with the Goodyear mud and snow tires, as I like the heavy deep and thick treads, and they just plain look good. They are a sought bit noisy on the freeways, but not too bad.
Just curios, TCows, or anyone using Toyo's, where do they rate on the tire chart, from a scale of 1-10 in quality? As far as application, let's just use a street tire to keep it simple.
A fellow member asked me to post a photo of my RR steering gear connection, so I figured this was the easiest place to find it.
He asked if the pressure hose was connected to the upper or lower hole in the gear. I thought they were two different size fittings, but without going out to the truck, this was the quickest way I could tell how they were routed.

Well I was impressed with the Toyo's, and they were old tires too, not sure when they were manufactured since they don't have the standard date coding tires all now carry. They do have "made in the USA" on them though.
Would I go with another set of Toyo's if the opportunity presented itself, sure. But I will be looking for a used set in the spring, and I will probably not be particularly fussy on what I run.

Got my '85 grill swapped out for the '86 off my late Uncle's D100 like he wanted to do but never got to. I tried to do this when I first got the truck. The '91 grill was junk, but the '86 style is too deep and hit the a/c condenser, so I put the '85 on after I moved the headlights. Well I've had the truck almost two years and I never did get around to seeing if the air worked...after being in a 110+ factory anything was cooler. Well the other day I tried the charging port while I was under the hood and TLF (total lack of freon) so after cutting the grass today I pulled the condenser off and made the change...did have to notch the grill a little to clear the cooler lines.

Swapped out the fuel filter in Poncho tonight. I will see if that improves the slightly less power at WOT than I would expect I seem to get sometimes.
Checked the other fluids, all seems good. I will road test tomorrow.

The Vanilla Gorilla has been running well though.
The guys at the lumber yard yesterday gave it the thumbs up while I was picking up a bunch of 7/16s OSB and roofing tin screws. Nothing like using your antique truck as a TRUCK.

Heavy duty aftermarket Steering Box mounting bracket
I found an aftermarket steering box mounting bracket Offroad Truck Parts & Car Restoration - Autofab will lead you to it is beefy and well engineered the best $225 it may need some minor work the mounting holes are drilled at 1/2" they will need to be 9/16 for the original bolts front and rear the bottom bolt that you have to press/drive in will need to be a 19/32" hole the early trucks actually have 1/2" bolts (make sure you check prior to drilling) it is a close tolerance piece and will need to be pressed tightly to the steeting box before starting the bolts to insure proper fit.
