Is the fuel heater gasket good? mine caused the same thing to happen.

That also became a problem for the small roofing contractors that had specialized in residential metal roofing, but shingle style. Now that was a beautiful roof. Looked like tile, but all metal. A forever roof.
If I was a lotto winner, I would have chosen that type of roof, but in copper.
The studs they use for houses are really thin. like 20 or so gauge. sheet rock screws go right through them. I personally would skip them. actually I think they are thinner than 20ga.I don't mess with the thinner stuff much so my judgment so likely off.

Funny you mention that....that thought popped into my head last night when driving home. I have been cleaning all the fuel connection points with brake cleaner and watching for fuel weeping out anywhere.....but all look good from what I can see.

When my fuel heater seal went bad after I upgraded to a piston lift pump it gushed fuel out and no amount of torquing on the filter would make it stop. I had to wait all weekend to get a new one from Cummins for $6.00

It can only suck air before the lift pump where there is negative pressure unless your lift pump is bad.

Seems like mine started draining back just before it started leaking. It was sitting for a few years before I got around to changing the gasket so memory
is a bit fuzzy.

I guess it could drain back when the truck wasn't running. Then air could get in the lines. Mine didn't start leaking until I installed the Piston Pump but I didn't drive it until I got the leak fixed.

The one thing I have learned if nothing else after 45 years of working on motor vehicles is sometimes the seemingly impossible happens and less often the totally impossible happens.

Trans tubes, heat exchanger & tubes all pulled for powder coating.

Tried painting, coating with grease, and nothing lasts. Figured I would do this before I break down again....

So tired of,chasing the rust...

That's a big job T-man....you getting all the lines done, even down under the truck as well?

When I do the cummins/auto swap into my Ramcharger I saved about 6-8" of the original tubes and will get fittings brazed on and then run standard HD hydraulic lines.

Are you meaning to swap out all the hard lines, to the liquid to liquid cooler, alongside the drivers side oil pan flange, and maybe around the transmission to all hydraulic lines? I was contemplating doing that, in the future, but was unsure on the hard lines that low cause of rocks and misc. debris, maybe puncturing a softer line.

Took me a few hours to remove all the lines and the heat exchanger. 25 years of ...

Yes the low lines under the truck as well.

Yes its a pain to do, but I can't risk breaking down in the winter.

The oil pan is getting rusty too. Lord knows I don't want to pull that, so I'm at a loss other than oil coating it and hoping for the best.

got to clean them up a little bit of the oil and then drop them off at the powder coating company. They're going to attempt to blast them with a very fine media after dipping them in acid. They're not going to dip the exchanger but all the other parts will get dipped, and coated.

This isn't for visual effect. This is my feeble attempt at keeping this truck, going.

Yes all the lines will be Hyd hose.....I did not keep any of the other OEM hard lines.

The HD hydraulic lines should be fine they are pretty rugged units with multi layers, heck large excavators have exposed rubber lines on the booms and near the bucket when diggin in rock/sand/gravel.

If I am concerned about possible punctures I will just wrap them in some of that plastic electrical wire loom. Inspecting them every couple years and replacing any lines that might be in suspicion of failing would be cheap insurance. IMO

Poncho died on us while dropping off my daughter to school this morning.
I had to pick it up with the '95 dually and trailer later after leaving it beached in someone's driveway.
It turns out the fuel sending must be acting weird as it reads 1/4 tank, but was totally out of fuel...
Good times, but it was and easy fix. After getting it home, I put 10 gallons of diesel in it, pressurized the tank with a psi or two, cracking a few fuel lines and it is back up and running.
