Well, thanks for reinforcing what I've read, guys. I guess you could say I've got an extremely "rare" shell then, as it's in really good shape. Only thing I have to have replaced is one of the side slider windows, as a kid we hired to weed eat didn't follow my instructions about staying far away from the shell, and he flung a rock into the glass and shattered it. I have a Leer dealer in my small town, and he said he can get the replacement glass.
The type of shell I have flushes out with the top of the cab.
I'm now wondering if they make that accordion rubber connection that goes from shell front slider to truck rear window slider. I remember back in 1992 my next door neighbor had a firstgen with the Leer shell and that accordion weatherproof connection. I thought it was cool that he could reach back and grab stuff from the bed, and never get wet. His hunting dog used to be able to hop from the bed to the front seat thru that accordion, too.
Would anyone know if that's a shell manufacturers product or an aftermarket add in for the shell? What is the proper name/term for that thing anyway?

One of those work great to take the chill off of a cold morning under the shell. That's what I used on my caribou hunt a couple of weeks ago.

The heater idea is a good one but to pricey for something that will be used only once in a great while. I'm to old to make sleeping in a pickup bed a habit.

Edwin, just get yourself those zippo hand warmers. Saw those on Amazon for like $15. Uses lighter fluid to activate, is about the size of an iPhone, and that'll keep you warm if placed in the right places.
I'd post a link if I knew how, but you'll find it easily. Those things get really warm, and wrapping it in a sock, and placed between the you know what's, will do the trick.
If you have a small generator, pre heat your bed with an electric blanket.

I really appreciate all the suggestions for how to keep warm. I have an inverter and an electric blanket. I can plug them in and idle the engine for a bit to get the bed warm just before retiring. Hopefully the sleeping bags will keep warm for the rest of the night. It's forecast to get down to the 50's over the weekend so I don't think it will be that bad. We can always sit in the cab with the heater going also. I just love the smell of diesel in the morning.

was raining on the way home from work. caught a red light, and when it changed I went to take off, but the truck just sat there.....then I realized the drive wheels were turning but the truck wasn't moving......

Swapped on my winter tires a couple days ago, man it's so much smoother now. 
I had been running a set of old used Toyo's I picked up super cheap in the spring (about 50% tread).....paid $80 for the set, and wore them down to almost nothing. I probably got more then 30K km's on them....not bad.
