When I met my wife she had our Chi weenie, Dot. sometimes dot would ride in the Peterbilt dump I was driving at the time.
Dot liked to sit on the passenger side floor and look out the window at the bottom of the door. It was fun to see people that saw her looking it them.

Seriously, is it possible it's coming from the belt area, and not the engine itself ? You know, maybe a pulley, tensioner, alternator ?

Or definitely from the engine / clutch area ?

Or is it the valve tappet area ?

Anyway to post a you boob video about it. ?
I'm finding it really hard to pin point the area the noise is coming from. I have not tried removing the belt yet....should do that.

But actually yesterday when out and about the motor did seem a lot more quiet then before the valve adjustment. I have noticed that some days it's noisier then others, pretty sure outdoor temperature affects it to some degree. So will see what it sounds like to day when I run into town.

Noises can be such a PITA to diagnose.

Kind of like electrical shorts that only happen once every few weeks, which I'm still trying to figure out.

Those are the worst kind. you think you have it fixed and at the worst possible time it happens again. I would rather the thing stop working all together so I can find and fix it once and forall.

No worries there. The dogs hang with me through it all, tire swaps, road tests, shop work, carpentry jobs, road trips.
The dogs are with me 22-24 HRs a day most days.

Today, I power sprayed the entire engine bay. All rat turds gone, along with the greasy mess. Went thru a few cans of that foamy engine degreaser. Under the truck all sprayed out, also.
New findings on the new truck:

1. Tailgate won't unlatch to open
2. Glove box won't stay shut. Pops open every so often.
3. Cargo light doesn't work.
4. Temperature control handle/sliding bar won't go all the way to the right
5. Power side mirrors won't budge
6. Cab light fixture is MIA.
7. Wipers don't work, and I think I already mentioned that on my other tread.
On a good note, the inside of the cab stinks, and stinks bad. Smells moldy, from just sitting under an oak tree. It's a good note, cause my female German Shepard loves it in there, and I had to pry on her to get her out, LOL.

Got a question regarding this new truck- are the recalls on the VE still being honored? Curious to know if a recall that old, would still be worth chasing. The pump is untouched, judging from the smoke screw cap still being intact along with the lock collars in place still. Thinking about calling the dealer tomorrow, to verify.

I usually go for a ride by myself and that usually takes care of most of the noises in my truck

You mean the ones that go in your "hard of hearing" right ear ?

I ordered some new Metro door seals for the RC and Poncho from Summit.
The RC has nothing and the ones in Poncho are so played out and ripped up I can see light through the door when it is closed.
Should cut down on SOME of the noises in my cab...

Well the rattling was back again while driving around yesterday. It seems to come and go in intensity. I did as The bigragu suggested....pried forward and back on the harmonic balancer looking for excessive end play, thus dictating a thrust bearing issue.....none that I could see or even feel.

Glad you checked that. If and when you go to the local Harbor Freight, pick up a dial indicator, as it's a good tool to have. .012, as stated as the max allowance of crank movement in our 12 valves, is not very much. What I saw move, that I thought was so very minute, checked out at .045. I begged my father in law, a retired diesel mechanic for Kenworth, to tell me it was okay. All he said was, " I don't know what to tell you, except to drop your oil pan". GRRRRR!!!

TCows, when you drained your oil, you didn't happen to watch the flow, did you? Probably not, cause who does that, LOL. When I decided, okay, drain the oil, I noticed it came out as if something was in the way of the drain hole- baffled, instead of pouring out in a tube shape- gushing. When I dropped the pan, that freaking thrust bearing flange was caught up in the drain hole.

Researching all of this, I found out from others, that sometimes they find the cummins plastic oil squirters/nozzles in the pan. Thank goodness for not finding that, as the crank would need to be removed.
You got something going on there, as speaking from my experience with that whole fiasco, my engine sounded so much different after the fix. I went ahead and not only swapped out all the crank bearings, but Rod bearings also. For sure, the metallic flapping noise went away, and I'll contribute that to the crank bearings, but all the other ticking noises, that went away probably from new Rod bearings, also, or a combo of both.
What you ought to try, if your willing, is a new oil drain, but refill with 10 quarts of regular Dino, and two quarts of Lucas oil stabilizer. That thick stuff fills gaps, stuff that's worn. If, it quiets it down very noticeably, then that means you have worn out bearings and such.
Just my opinion, as I'm not an automotive mechanic, but it makes sense to me.

I know that a lot of folks don't like that Lucas oil additive; all I know, is when I had my father in law look over the wear on my crank and Rod bearings(since he's the expert), he said the wear was very, very good. Worn evenly, no overheat marks, distortion, and all that stuff. I've run Lucas additive for years. Two quarts in the summer, and one in the winter.

Drained the 2nd round of distilled water and refilled with 2.5Gal of antifreeze and the rest distilled water. After that moved my toy hauler away from the hedge so we can prep for weeked at the motocross track.

I'll be ordering a new air ride seat for my Fuso in a few weeks or so, depending if it's in stock or not. If this seat fits well, and stops the discomfort of driving the truck, I'm most likely going to order a suspension kit for the dodge. My OEM dodge seat is in excellent shape, so installing an air ride suspension under it is my intent. I get to try it out in my Fuso first...
