FWIW,

I bought one of these and it's been flawless since.

I kept the old one, as it still worked. Figured the OEM one should be rebuilt and kept on hand.... so one day, I will.

I would probably consider it if my OEM Alt failed. However, it still works fine. I actually just went out there and unhooked the blue (j2 switched power) wire and tested it. No charge...good. I then hooked a jumper wire from that same field terminal on the Alt directly to the battery, thinking that there was too much resistance due to a faulty ignition switch. When I started the engine I touched the wire to the positive post and the alt begins charging to 17-18V and holds.

If my replacement internal reg also fails, I will probably go back to the janky external regulator set up I had.

The internal transpo unit is what I just installed that failed. Before I had been running an external unit since Feb with no issues.

The alternator is even wired with #2 wire fused and grounded directly to the battery.

I pulled the regulator today, looks like the problem is because the glue holding the reg to its mounting bracket failed.

I'll second that stamp of approval! 12 hour days on the saddle of my motorbike and still able to walk and sit with comfort and no ugly monkey butt problems. Biggest issue was overcoming that "diaper powder in my shorts" man thing.

Cheers!

You guys should try Dri-wear, Under armour, dri-fit or other moisture control fabric briefs. I discovered these 5-6 years ago and they are amazing. I have converted many of my friends to these. Absolutely an amazing product that eliminate monkey butt, and swalls (sweaty *****.... ) .

They are not cheap, usually in the 10-15 dollar range per pair, but worth every penny once you start using them. I wear them year round now.
