So I was running the rotella 15W40, and the last 3 days it has been getting colder every night, this morning it was -28*C at my truck, and it was plugged in all night and the grid heaters still came on and were running! But the oil pressure has been taking longer and longer to build up...5-10 sec with little or no oil pressure.....Scary stuff!

So today I went down and bought a pail of Rotella T-6 5W40 synthetic engine oil, and from my research it seems that this is a pretty good oil for the cold areas. Drained out the old conventional oil and filled it with the synthetic. We will see what the motor does when I fire it up tomorrow.
Need a nipco blasting the underside of the truck for 15 minutes before you fire it up!

I did an oil and filter change on my winter ride [Blue Donkey] '95 two weeks ago. Just before oil undercoating the truck to deal with the salty roads.
I use synthetic Valvoline 5w-40 as my winter oil to deal with the -30 F we see here every winter. It helps a lot with cold weather start ups.

Black of course

I guess this place is a bit quiet lately. -37C I guess has you guys frozen in your homes, eh ?

Man, that's freaking cold.....

A few weeks back I replaced the battery, converted it to screw post, but never addressed the other end of the wiring system.

How many of us ever do ?

After 2 or 3 years of being bolted on, it was a tad rusty. Cleaned up everything, used dielectric grease between the bolt, wire and block, and then coated it all with neverseize after it was all done.

Silly little maintenance things that keep this truck a running without much fuss...

I run syn 5-40 year round. I used to have to put up with that kind of cold. It certainly does help!

I cleaned and lubed the tailgate latches.

I took everything apart and cleaned the hard grease and dirt off then lubed with white lithium and reassembled. Now my tailgate stays closed.

Be glad you don't live here (salt belt).

When I put white lithium on stuff, 6 months goes by, and it turns all brown and rusty. Go figure, eh ?

I've switched to spray grease from a buddy of mine from FPPF. Let's hope it works, cause I'm tired of re doing my redoing....

Time will tell...

Used mine today to take the wife's transmission from her Tacoma to the rebuilders.

Apparently the 05 model year was not kind to synrcos and we were lucky to get 180k out of it. Toyota has updated ones that are going in, actually updated them in 08.

Reminds me of the time I borrowed a buddies US Forestry Dodge 360 gasser.
Back into a space all fancy like and when returning I forgot to put the clutch in and truck went down a small embankment with me inside yelling those same words these guys were. Only difference is I put it in 4Low and drove away like nothing happened except a few broken sprinklers.
