Sand filled would help, I'm sure, alhough difficult at best keeping sand from sticking inside the hose section .
First attempt kinked the tube a bit
Second was much better
Painted and lubed the shaft

Think I've got a U Joint going out so will be digging into that tomorrow.

For a while now as soon as the clutch is let out in foreword or reverse there is a loud "click".

For the last 2 weeks or so once the clutch has been let out and you are now accelerating in both second or third gear there is a vibration that feels to me to be from the rear end.

Today just feet from my house climbing a hill I could hear a whirring grinding sound...

It's time.

Put the truck on jack stands and run it slowly to see if any noise comes about

Cracked the cover lose to drain and will look inside tomorrow.

The center carrier I'd say needs replacing, it seems to be laying with all it's weight on the bottom strap and not really isolating the shaft. All 3 u joints didn't have any appreciable movement BUT the driveshaft can turn some with the E Brake on so there defiantly is gear slop.

Today I assembled the double cardon on my front driveline. the 5-789X front joint won't fit in the yoke though.

Put the steering gear back in today. All new hoses, new trans filter / cooler hoses, new Rag Joint.

Too bad Chip is done, as he sold the business. Said he's out by Christmas.

Well wishes to him. Unfortunately for us, a true master of his trade is gone.

Today I cleaned up my rear driveline. when I went to replace the U-joints SDH-5-160X it wouldn't fit the slip yoke that's the second time this week that happened. first the front with a 5-786X now the rear. I have never had this problem.

Edit I got the rear ADH-5-160X to fit. I fished the old one out of the garbage can and compared the new one to it. the only difference is the spokes on the cross are .010 bigger around. I ended up rocking the cross with one hand and taping the outside end with a brass hammer. a quick check for damage and back to the normal routine..

I think I need to take the turbo off, and install all those nice shiny new parts I have sitting on the bench.
