I alos have a small .047 solenoid that I could mount between the turbos... that would work too I am sure

On my 40min commute in this morning, I was thinking about spraying nitrous before the intercooler, and why race trucks don't run an air to air intercooler.

Now I have no real data so this may not even be relevant, but what if the nitrous is cooling the air charge below ambient, so when it flows through the intercooler it is actually being heated? As an air to air exchanger can only cool to the ambient out side temp.

The theory about spraying before the IC is that it cools the charge before the IC, which then just keeps it cool,,, then spraying again in the Intake gives it that one last cool. I was going to run the 50 shot into the airfilter to cool the turbos, but never got it done before the races

Testing would determine the next steps for ultimate set-up. To bad you couldn't find a local engine dyno to determine which way to proceed. I've phoned around, and nobody here has a dyno set-up for a diesel. Maybe you guys might have better luck than me. A chassis dyno would work, but there are more variables to consider.

I get that, and if it only cools the charge air to ambient or slightly above, then it would work exactly like that. However if it cools the charge to less then ambient the intercooler will actually become an interheater and heat the air back towards ambient. However this is all just conjecture at this point, as we have no data.

Now the only thing about a dyno, is that unless it was in a wind tunnel it would largely negate the air to air intercooler, but you are right an engine dyno, and some good data logging, would provide all sorts of insight.

I was thinking about the hot pipe issue. The hot pipe wouldnt be as long as what the duramax guys or the powerstroke guys use.. I would also like to see how they mount their big turbo's

Thats why they use those big fans on the chasis dyno.. helps recreate that.

My buddy Dave owns a mustang dyno, and the big fan helps, but it is more like driving at 20km/h vs 100km/h.

From the couple setups I have seen (powerstroke and duramax) they both mount there big chargers behind the passenger headlight, and you are right you should have a fair bit less hotpipe then either of those setups. Imho you can go a long way with a well insulated hotpipe and not see really any difference. I know a number of turbo outlaw cars are moving their big turbo's over the rear axle for better weight distribution.

Here are a couple of pics I found of an S595 over an S471, so about the same size frame of turbo's as you are going to run.

This isn't a 3rd gen, but it does have some big turbos.

I wonder how they support that big turbo?

Sch.40 hot pipe, and a brace back to the block.

Now if you jump up to a TN106 we are going to have to put our thinking caps on to get it to fit...
