Hey guys, need some advice on some trucks... Looking at a 2002 dually reg cab 6 speed HO that is in excellent shape. 85,000 miles exhaust brake, new tires, sliding rear window, elecric windows and locks, diamondplate running boards, cruise, reclining seats, stabilizer bar. It has a few rock chips, a small amount of paint on the dash, exhaust is rusted some, and the main thing wrong is that it has an oil leak somewhere around the timing cover. I was just wondering what you guys are thinking, there asking 20995. Could a salvage title be a possibility to go look for? My dad is trying to get me to look at wrecked trucks but im not to fond of the idea. Im 18 years old and need a pickup I can rodeo out of and run a lot of miles with low stress. Thanks for everything

Over on NW Bombers.com Dave (Fishin2Deep4U) father had a 02 that had a KDP fall in the case and do damage.
BTW the 02's also eat the injection pumps more maybe due to lack of air.

I thought the KDP issue was gone by 02? As for the oil leak I'll bet it's the puke bottle it's either full or missing. Can you verify the leak or is it just oil caked on the front if the engine. Price seems about right, I doubt a salvage title but check it out to be sure.
Good luck.

The leak looks more to the drivers side top. I meant to say that this is the truck that i really like, but being an 18 year old i dont know if i want that much debt or if it is worth it. My dad was saying that I should find a wrecked truck to buy for cheaper. I dont want to have to worry about breaking down or having to keep a certain truck forever. I will be going to school 900miles from home and rodeoing **** near 3 weekends a month during fall and spring. I cannot afford to have a truck brake down when i am hauling 6 guys horses to a rodeo that i cannot be late to. WHAT SHOULD I DO? Im 18 years old and need a new pickup but want one that will be good to me.
Thanks for your opinion,
Jake

You're riding a wish and a prayer falling for the truck without having a qualified mechanic go over it. Any used vehicle should be thouroughly road tested and researched, especially for 21K. It sounds real nice, but I'd get it looked over by a good mechanic and then decide. Kurt

The KDP isn't an issue on the 02. If there is an oil leak coming from the timing cover on the drivers side, check the the oil breather, pill box. It's probably full of oil and running down the front. It's pretty common for these things to be over looked when servicing and can cause this mess. Another tell tail is too chek the radiator to see if there is a bunch oil on the fins. I have a fix for this if you get the truck. Before ya buy it I would get the fuel pressure checked and the Vp44 (injection pump). The 24v trucks 98.5-02 are prone for the lift pump to fail and kill the injection pump, very $$$.
