Note-been trying to upload to photobucket all day....if I didn't have 3000 pics on the site already I would use another pic provider. I eventually got the pics to work using my old PC hard drive and then copy and paste in this thread......what a gong show!

Well yesterday I drove almost 1200km's, and 15.5hrs, round trip to Grande Prairie AB and back, to pick up a couple items I purchased at a Richie Bros Auction. Since I couldn't bid in person, I bid on-line....very handy system they have, and couldn't be happier with my purchases.

I purchased a simple backhoe attachment for my skid steer, and a 2 post hoist (9000lb rating) for the new shop when it gets built. Same hoist I had been looking at locally, but got it for $1200 cheaper! Pretty certain it's off shore built, but will inspect it carefully, and if I have to modify and strengthen it I will.

Due to the Easter weekend I was not sure if they were going to be open, so had to call early...Thankfully they were. I had got the truck and trailer ready to go the night before, so all I had to do was basically jump in and go. About an hour north of town the snow started.....and I had just put on my worn summer tires last week!

Snow got worse and worse as the trip went on, at least through BC, and evened out to a steady snow fall by the time I got into Alberta. Again thankful for the 4wd that's for sure.

Once I arrived at the RB Auction house they got me loaded up, chained everything down really well.

Then filled up on some cheap Alberta diesel and started heading for home.....snow was even worse through BC on the return trip....over 12" of wet slippery snow in some areas!

Man, I hate when I change my tires, and then the weather turns out for the worse.

Took a ride out to OHIO last year, and the ride out was beautiful. Just put my "summer = terrible wet weather" tires on the brick, and the ride home was butt clenching. My shorts were stained from everyone passing me while I played the "hold it straight" game @ 45 to 50MPH. Rain, cold weather and really hard, siping free tires was no fun for 7 hours....

Nice pics, TC. looks like you're gonna have some fun in the upcoming weeks with your new lift, and outhouse hole digger...

Thrashing, that looks like the same packing on the lift I got from BendPak.
Great pictures and enjoy that lift when you get it set up!

Yes. On the line coming out of the steering gear unit, to the cooler, then back to the pump

KRB- Butch over at Tallon told me that they don't advertise the kit on line, because even though it is a popular part with the dodge diesel community, it's not up there in popularity with the overall masses of folks into the muscle cars. If you call him he will totally get you set up.

I saw a an old post on TDR when I was doing my research on HB, and that's when I read and learned about Tallon, and Butch. One of the members on TDR sent his vac booster to Butch, so Tallon could design a prototype where the mount flange holes and the brake pedal rod all fit up nice, along with the pushrod to the MC being just right. So I am assuming that is when the making of the kit originated.

Augie,
I also checked out the site and couldn't find it or a price.
Since I can make one up from parts I have in the shop, it is probable more expensive than spending the time to fab one up..It would still be nice to have a rough idea of the price of the kit for comparison.
Could you let me know? You can PM me if you prefer.

There were some stretches that I could only do 80kph/50mph.....if I gave it a bit of throttle to try and speed up I was all over the road.....so back to previous speeds. The frost heaves in the road weren't much fun in the snow either....sent truck and trailer all over the place, and me off the steering wheel and the windshield. ...

I don't mind, Oliver, and if it's OK with everyone, here's why I came to the justification of spending $730 for the kit. The dollar amount is with the added master cylinder, shipping, all that.

I was already into it $300 with a reman Cardone booster and a new Cardone master cylinder from Orileys. I know how some of you feel about those reman parts, made overseas. I've read enough treads on master cylinder and booster replacements to know that it's all a big chance and a big hit and miss on those parts. Still, they came with a lifetime warranty so I was okay with that. Still $300, though.
I know myself. I would've done all aero quip stainless braided hoses and fittings on this one. I've had enough stainless braided hose made up over the years to know it would have easily cost me close to $200 for all hoses and all fittings.
My Orileys Cardone Booster did not come with a push rod, and I learned that the hard way. So, it was either off to the junk yard, or spend time researching for the correct push rod. Then, there's that pedal rod connection. I've read TCows incident, JFonders tread on HB, MKnittle, and others on Other sites. For me, it would have been at least two mistakes before I got it right.
I need to add this, and that on other forum sites, most guys that went with my original proposed route of buying new reman parts and having hoses built were into it between $500-$600 anyway.

The fuel costs driving from here to there, back and forth, etc., to round up parts, costs money. You have to include that into costs.

Lastly, my time. Everyone that has done the cobble up kit for HB conversions, never really talk about their time involved. I just see pics of progress. It looks like all the parts were on hand the first time. You all know what your time is worth. I value my time a lot. Not saying you all don't, and for that matter, when sourcing the parts and fitting, the items that end up hit and miss might be enjoyable to some. Not me, LOL!

Then, of course, there's that feeling that you hope and pray that the cobbled up kit works as it should, as it was designed to do. No leaks, chirps, nothing. No overheating of fluids, not steering going out when brakes are applied, all that. I've been thru enough of that worry with this truck and its mods, that I didn't want to worry about braking and steering going out cause I accidentally screwed something up.
So, in a thousand words, there are my reasons for foolishly spending the $$ for a conversion. I say foolishly cause I guess I could keep crawling under the truck, spinning tires, bleeding more, adjusting this and that, to keep my vac brakes up to par, and save big $$. But, there's that time thing again, and besides, I like what all you that have done HB had to say, and that sold me. I truly believe I would have been into it at around $600 max, just in parts(not including fuel and time involved)
Oliver, with your resources available to you, you could probably put together an awesome kit, better than the Tallon kit, for cheaper. But, you're out of the ordinary, as most folks don't have the luxury of parts available at their fingertips.
Anyway, I'll let you all know how it turns out, this mod. I'll send pics of the kit when I get it opened up, so you can see what all comes with it. I'll start a new tread.

Replaced my belt tensioner again. Seems as though it's every few years, I'm changing it again.

Last time hayden #5844 which the Korean made universal crapola one that most companies rebrand. Got 3 years and about 36K out of it. This time I went with Dayco, as I read and found on the box, that Dayco is the only USA manufactured tensioner on the market, and a major supplier of OEM.

We shall see. At least for now it's not squeaking anymore...

BTW, I took my random orbital sander, and lightly (120 grit) sanded the smooth side of the belt to remove any imperfections in the surface. The belt wasn't changed long ago, but the Hayden tensioner pulley was pitted where bits of paint had fallen off, and I didn't want a shiny spotted belt to interfere with the new pulley. I have several extra belts and once I know this tensioner works for a while, I'll replace that belt too....

Before I installed the new tensioner, I sanded all the blistered paint off of the original pulley. Put it back on.

I wanted to see if it made any difference regarding noise. Not one bit.

New pulley, noise is gone...

I did nothing to my first gen today, I went to work. It was sitting there when I got home! That's good. I hate reading those postings on CL about stolen trucks.

Last Saturday I hauled a new BBQ over to Ma Kettles in Big Red! On Friday I fired up the rolled parts rig and pulled the boot and broken shifter on the 'rag to see what's up. The tranny is stuck in third which happened when it rolled. The PO broke the shifter after the roll trying to move it. Nothing to see, yep it's stuck!
