What did you do to your Gen 1 today?
well, pulled the old girl out of the barn today for the first time in about a month. been working on this '03 cummins swap project and haven't had time for her. it's amazing how just driving a lap around the yard puts a smile on my face. realized i've missed driving her and i'm actually excited to spend a couple days on the road with her again.
anyhoo, getting ready to head back to Florida from South Dakota so I wanted to investigate/fix my leaking hydrobooster. I picked up the booster last April from a junk yard for $20 and just threw it on(pretty pleased that it lasted me this long). I noticed it leaking a couple months back and just didn't have the time to take it off the road long enough to fix it. Found that its leaking from the seam where the two halves of the booster are bolted together. I guess there is a big o-ring type seal between the 2. So i hopped on www.piratejack.com and ordered up a reseal kit, $41. I figure at $61 total investment, i'm still about 1/4 of the way to the cost of a new unit.

However, my wife and I have separate names for one of our remaining outside cats. She calls him Nermal after the annoying little Garfield character. I have always hated that character so I call him either Normy (ala Cheers) or Smokey because he's gray.
I got mine from pirate Jack.
post#792 is what I used to install the input seals. that is the biggest calking tube spout that home cheapo had. they are tough little buggers to get stretched onto the shaft.

and the puller to get the pushrod out without screwing up the HB input or?
ask Brian about that.

thank you! you have no idea how much that compliment means to me, lol. as far as i know, I'm the only one that has those wheels on a 1st gen. probably because I'm the only one dumb enough to do it. they're from a 2014 ram power wagon, solid forged aluminum units. I had to get the fronts machined to make the hub opening larger, 2" spacers all the way around w/ M14 studs, with the spacers held on by these weird flanged gorilla lug nuts. in order to rotate my tires, i have to get them unmounted/mounted as the rear wheels won't fit the front. the things we do for shiny stuff, lol.
Made another 1000 mile rounder the other day to haul up some more parts and tools to the new house. Truck did great as always, and I achieved my best MPG's yet....got 23.75 mpg's!
Only issue is now I have a slight shimmy from somewhere..can't tell if it's front or rear. Might be a bad bearing, or could be tire related also since it seems to be most noticeable when you first take off in the morning and the tires are cold....once they warm up it seems to go way for the most part. I have given the tires a good physical inspection, but perhaps it an internal band related issue?

Yesterday marked one year since someone hit my truck... It has been quite the year and the poor thing has been on the back burner. I finally got it front and center. I pulled whats left of the dually fender off and tried to get it so I could put a tail light and get a fender, and get it so it is driveable until I can find a bed skin.
On a side note anyone know where I can find a cheap left side fender? I found Wallis and they have them for $300

I stopped by the battery shop Ont h way home from my wife's doctor appointment.
I had them make me up a couple 00 battery cables 43 bucks for the positive 43" ana a 36"negative. both with 3/8 lugs on both ends. I am going to a group 31 battery with the stud posts.

My main battery has been failing for about the last several months or so, causing me to use the parallel switch when I started the truck so today I finally had the time to stop by my local Interstate Battery Store and buy me a nice new Group-31 battery, this one cost me $154.15
When I got there, everyone in the shop came over to look at my truck and all made comments about how nice it was, and when I opened the hood,
there were awwh...man look at that, that is a real truck, comments being made.
I ask him to check the old battery to confirm my suspicion and after I disconnected my system my battery has 2 dead cells producing only 8 volts.
He brought the new battery out, set it on a cart and looked at the old battery setting buried under welding cables going everywhere and said are you sure you want me to do this?
I am afraid I might connect something up wrong.
I said hey no problem, I will install it, you can watch.
After about a minuet,
I had everything disconnected and he pulled out the battery, I wiped down the tray and then the new battery was dropped in,
just about that time, my daughter nudged me out of the way and said, Dad, I want to do it.
So I let her install the 2 j-bolts and the top bracket and tighten it down.
The guys just stood there and probably felt dumb.
I let her help for a few minuets and then I finished critical stuff like the cables and reconnecting the battery separators.
A know it all from the office came out at one time and was trying to tell me the battery probably died because the alternator was not big enough to charge my batteries and run all of my lights.
A mechanic pointed to the alternator and the guy just went back into the office.
