What did you do to your Gen 1 today?
Fabricated the front and backs and assembled the basic frame making sure it was square in the process. Adding shelving for the bottom, and a "metal filing" shield under the saw so my "stuff" doesn't get full of chips....
Added supports, final welding and wheels, and it's in my little workshop...

2 of the 4 casters lock. Standard 3" 175 lb home cheapo casters. I've used them on other "heavier" projects, and they last quite well, as long as I don't drive on the highway with them, that is...
I bought this saw. Just like any cold saw, no sparks / flames / hot metal to contend with. I've had a 14" makita chop saw that is abrasive based for what seems like forever. It works, but the metal gets red hot, and lots of stinky abrasive wheel smell. THis has NONE of that. Perfect in all respects, as far as I'm concerned.
Here:
AMAZING... just like all my other makita purchases...... free shipping and an amazon rebate to boot. Very, very happy with it.

Tman,
That is a nice saw,
I still use my Sawzall and Makita angle grinder to make all of my cuts,
if I need something quick I can use a Stihl gas chop saw, but I usually start a small fire with it from the sparks.
It’s easy to see you are a perfectionist.
Can you explain your avatar?
Jim

Sure..
I had some shoulder arthritis issues (and still do) and that is an X ray of my head when they asked me to open my mouth so they could see the top of my cervical spine from the front. Apparently, my teeth and jaw were in the way.....
Doctors, afterwards, wanted to slice and dice me up, removing my shoulder / upper arm bone and replace it with a hunk of metal. After asking them 3 times "what was the success rate? " and them ignoring my question, 3 times, I opted to go back to the gym and work it out myself. At 49 years old, I didn't think the $100,000 surgery was worth my time, albeit they would enjoy their payday....and a down payment on their new Benz...
BTW, shoulder surgery success ???? 15 to 20% on a "good run". I found that out from my other doctor...

You and me, both.
I walked in there with shoulder pain. I wasn't dragging my arm like some sort of invalid evil assistant henchman with no other options. It was clear the the "specialty" group I went to wanted nothing but exploiting me for their financial gain, and maybe "practice". I mean really ? I can move around, I can function fine during the day, I can lift stuff, and raise my arm to the height of my shoulder.
My issue was my inability to sleep through the night because of being woken up by the pain (and I'm not referring to my wife, although I'd be right either way)
They said they literally chop off my arm bone at my shoulder, and stick a new ball end prosthesis on the cut and hope for the best. 6 months of intense pain, most likely never be normal again and drug dependent junkie..... although I'm really not normal now.
Lots of exercises, lots of stretching with cable / weights, and I'm improved. I can almost sleep on my side again after 4 months of self therapy. Almost.
These people should be hung from the nearest tree, taking advantage of people.. or at least attempting to.
