Ram air

Has anyone here drill/cut/punch out hole/holes in the sheet metal right above the top of the front bumper, directly in front of the plastic intake rectangular tube that feeds the filter with air? I did just that and got pretty good results with a ram air effect. I know everyone is going with the Smokey thing and the BHAF thing, but I was curious why no one has thought of this? There's a lot of you sharp people out there! I still use the stock airbox with the K&N replacement. As far as rainfall goes, you need to cut/drill/punch the hole/holes with a diameter size that would accept a metal electrical knock-out plug found in any electrical supply store. On with rain, off without rain, just a matter of poppin' it off. Mine are 1 1/4" in diameter, 2 of. Just curious. Carmyne

Check out the pictures in My Gallery to see how I did mine.
At 70 MPH with your foot off the throttle I get about 7 PSI boost.

I drilled holes above the bumper, so air forces its way into the (where the airbox used to be) airbox location.
look in my gallery

Air Scoop

I got the scoop from Gale Banks in Azusa, Ca.
It is the one that they use on the ram air systems for the big motorhomes.
I don't know where you live but if you ever get the chance to visit this shop, it is a must...
They really have some awsome toys there.
Jim.

On my truck the entire valence (spelling?) panel is removed. It was that way when I got it. You can see the factory scoop out in the open between the bumper and the grill.

Someone had punched a bunch of holes in my filter housing but I blocked them all back up with aluminum HVAC tape when I installed my ram air. I wanted to take advantage of the pressure of the air scoop in the airstream, a foreward facing air scoop at 70 MPH should flow a decent amount of free air, also getting the cold air from outside the hood.
The only downside to mine is because my truck in low and I have hit some pretty deep puddles and I was afraid of injesting the water. I am still working on a rotary valve to select the source.
