What does the Computer do on a 93ctd
Hi every one! Does Anyone know what the computer does on a 93 Dodge 4x4 CTD? I know it reads speed and has something to do with the overdrive in the auto junk box. As far as I can see and tell it controls very little on the CTD end of things.
I had a friend try to tell me I can use a computer chip or reprogrammer to help boost the hp but i have not seen any companies offer anything for the 93 or older. I told him to find one and i know alot of guys that would be looking for something to help them.
just have to ask.
Also two other questions on the 93s how good is the nv4500, will it hold up just got 2 from a older chevy with the lower gear set for the creaper gear, one is going in my Jeep CJ and the other is looking good tro replace the auto trans in the Dodge CTD, I know I need all the adapters and pedels for this, I pull alot of heavy equipment to and from job sites and also on them as well. Are chevys are not that good and are slower then a snail and slower pulling up grades.

Your processor on the 93 controls the little things like, voltage regulator, controls the selenoids for the grid heater, fuel heater, fuel level, eng. temp, and intake air temp.

Up through early '98 the computer on a Dodge Diesel only runs the stuff Rick was talking about. The engines are strictly mechanical.
The diesel version is actually called the NV4500HD, I wouldn't try using one from a Chevy gasser behind a Cummins if you have any plans to turn up the power. Get an NV4500 out of a '94-'03 Dodge diesel along with the starter, clutch slave, bellhousing and engine adapter.

Where is the computer located on the 93's. I am new to the diesel game and have been reading this form a lot and learning.
I dought that I will do any of the mods that you fellows talk about but it is interesting seeing what you guys are doing.

Thanks wannadiesel,
I have playing with Jeeps and Gassers and made that mistake a few years back with a chevy diesel truck took the trans out and stuck it in a Jeep CJ. Shift Points were total messed up. I was even thinking of the 6 speed in the newer trucks but I beleave the transfer case has a drivers side front shaft on it, and I dont think the Advanced Adapters Atlas Transfer Case would last to long mated to a Cummins. My 93 pulles alot of trailers (9k over) and spends 50% of its time offroad on job sites.
Any one with a comment chime in.
Had this truck to long to keep it stock Looking at a new 05 or 06. Hoping to see the POWER WAGON with a Cummins in it

You can use a nv5600, 6 speed, you have to have a np205 t-case out of a manual, and it will bolt to the nv5600. The auto np205 t-case has les splines on the input shaft than the manual.
