OD button on shifter

I got the shifter with the OD button on it and started to put it in like it says in the sticky and my wires are not the same colors as the sticky says. I do not have a black wire at all plugged into my OD switch. I tried to get the shifter at a few junkyards but they didnt want to break up a column. So I called dodge kinda figuring to laugh at the price and I almost fell over when he told me 40.00. So I ended up buying a new shifter of course but I am unsure of the wiring. I hope someone else has run into this.

The writeup is for a '92-'93 truck, you have a '91.5. The OD switch works differently on your truck. Unless you have a lot of electrical savvy I don't think you are going to get it working. That shifter switch is a momentary pushbutton, your OD switch is integrated into a module that opens and closes the OD circuit based on input from the actual switch. If you just wire the shifter switch in the circuit you will have to hold it down to get OD.

Anybody seen a shifter **** with a click-on, click-off type switch in it? I'd like to replace the pull-**** switch for my Gear Vendors, if possible.

That is not what I wanted to hear. is there any way I can wire it so that it controls the factory switch in the dash. That way I would still have the OD light too?

i'd try to find an electronic store with lots of switches and ask then if they have an on/off switch that can be triggerd by another switch.

or
double relay it
push once relay 1 comes on over drive push it again triggers relay 2 wich is just to kick relay 1 out,
just a thought i had?

Ok so I think I figured it out. I took the switch appart to see how it operates. Looks like all it does when you push the button is energize one wire that is not normally energized. When you let go the wire looses power. I used a jumper wire from a 12v hot and touched it to that post on the plug and the od light came on. Then I touched it again to the same post and the od light went off. So I think all I need to do to make this work is get a 12v source with the key on and run it to the shifter. Then from the shifter to that wire at the plug for the od button. The switch on the shifter will supply the momentary 12v that is needed to activate and deactivate od and I should also get to keep the od light in the dash. I am going to finish this all up tomorrow getting to late for me to think straight.

You don't need to run a separate 12v to get the conversion to work in a 91.5. Read my post in this thread about how I got mine to work.

ok I got it all working good. All I did was find the hot at the OD switch and tapped that and ran it to one side of the shifter. Then I found the signal wire tapped that and went to the other side of the shifter. Works great and I still have the OD light.
