The hardest button to button...

Hey guys,

So I've had a water leak on my truck for a while. I finally got around to chasing it down this weekend. I started to think it had to do with the lines from an old compent that was linked to when my truck was an automatic.

There's a heat exchanger on the side of the block, under the exhaust manifold. Two lines went to the transmission, two to the coolant system.

I'd wanted to take it off for a long time, but it always seemed like a pain.

And man was it! I could have swapped out a tranmission in the time it took me to get that sucker off. There's one bolt that was on the top, behind the actual unit, that must have taken me an hour to get off.

That unit must be put on before the engine is dropped into the truck.

On the bright side, I managed to flush the coolant system, change my oil, and changed out the tranny and transfer case fluid.

Anyway, just had to share...what a PITA! ;-) But the block looks so much nicer now.

I know how you feel getting that stupid friggin thing off. I had the motor out of the truck and it still to me half an hour to get it off. One of the bolts was crazy hard to get off and it was sort of rusted as well.

Motor didn't have a turbo or manifold on it either and it was still hard.

Ha! Yeah, that's funny. I did break off one of the bolts getting it out, on the bellhousing adapter. No harm, and it might have actually made it easier to get it off because it broke. ;-)

I am pretty sure I rounded that one off and had to cut it off. When it's gone it makes so much room on that side of the motor though. It's nice to have it gone.

Yeah, honestly, PITA. But, you don't necessarily HAVE to get rid of it. Once the tranny lines are cut, the rest is a closed system...it is extra crap on the side of the engine, buuuuuut...just saying.
