Oiling the 'O' Ring on the Fuel Filter?
I do not have any diesel oil around. I do have some other types of oil around, would it hurt anything if I use an oil other than diesel oil to lubricate the 'O' ring on my new fuel filter?
Thanks
Jason
PS. I still can't decide on whether to get a Mag Hytech or PML trans pan, or even if I should get one at all?!?!?!??!!?

engine oil, vaseline, atf, grease, any lubricant will work. I wouldn't use wd-40 or any penetrating fluid, although I don't know if that would hurt anything either I just wouldn't use it as it may soften the o-ring material.

I normally use some engine oil. I always have a bottle or two laying around on the shelf in my garage. It works just fine, so would diesel if you have some too.
The reason for oiling the O-ring is for installation purposes more than anything. It really doesn't matter what type of oil, whether engine oil, diesel, ATF, WD-40....etc, etc. The reason is so that when you are tightening the filter canister lid the o-ring is able to slide on the lid instead of getting bunched up, stretched and then either pinched or torn. When it is oiled it should just spin on the lid as it is being turned. The O-ring is already semi-rated for contact with oil/fuel other wise it would dissentegrate in no time. It may still swell a little but it remains intact for the most part.
I would highly recommend lubing them with something to prevent a fuel leak at the canister lid...remember it doesn't really help it seal any better but it ensures it stays in place properly during intall so that it can seal properly.
