transmission question

I recently swapped a 1990 12v cummings with Torqueflite 727 2wd into my 1972 Chevy K10 4x4 with NP205 transfer case. I want to keep the 4wd and NP205 transfer case. What all do I need to mate these 2 together? i read i need a coupler with the different spline threads and a 4x4 tail shaft. Is that all i need and does anyone know where to buy these parts? Any info or help would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forum, is your chevy transfer case married or non married? If it is non married you would need the yoke for the 727 tranny then build a shorty drive shaft to fit between the 2. If it is the married style you would need more than just the 4x4 tailshaft as the mainshaft in 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive are different and you would be better off getting a 4x4 tranny imho.

its usually easier to get a complete auto trans with tcase from a 89-93 cummins truck. Check your local ads.

Piecemealing it together is expensive. Custom adapters even more expensive. Not to mention a lot of work as the whole 727 needs to be torn down to modify the tail section.

Yeah i was thinking the same. If thats the case I may even go further and do a manual swap nv4500 4x4 tranny. Thanks for the input.

That gets complicated because a diesel nv4500 and passenger drop tcase arent a factory pairing.

Theres various ways to pull the stunt... mix n match this and that. Even consider a Ford front diff.

In the end, you may be further ahead to get everything from a 89-93 5spd cummins truck.

Excatly what I was thinking but did not have the time to type up this morning.

Depending on where the OP lives I have a lot of options here at my shop in Vermont.
