Inherited a 1st gen, opinions wanted

Hi all,
I inherited this truck from my father who recently passed. I actually bought it for him in 1999 from the original owner. Im not posting this as a for sale thread but wondering what you guys think it might be worth. I have two 2nd gens but am out of touch with the 1st gen market although it appears to be strong.

Obviously, its a bit unique being a short bed. The original owner bought it new and purchased a new short box at the same time. The dealer had a heavy truck shop in Greensboro shorten the frame and they painted the new box to match. Also has Gear Vendors overunderdrive unit, firestone air bags on all four corners and an auxiliary tank under the passenger side. It has minor issues but I did just drive it 400 miles to get it home.

Very cool to see what all a dealer would accommodate to make a sale in order to get the customer something not offered from the factory.

Need closer pics of bed / cab clearance. Looks a little tighter than stock. Might interfere if flexed out too much? Any pics of the fishplating?

Dad had a welding shop local to him make those. Just a piece of diamondplate with the outer edge turned down and welded directly to the transfer case crossmember.

Ill get a pic of the joint tomorrow. Its somewhat primitive, a large diamond shaped piece of 3/8 plate on the inside of each framerail. The original owner had a cabin in Montana that was fairly inaccessible and had the truck built to get him there. I dont see any evidence that the cab and bed have touched.

Neat truck...Sorry to hear of your Fathers passing. My dad passed away about 2 months ago now.

As for price....Since there was no factory short bed 1st Gen's made, it would be a tough one to figure out. I'd say if it's in good mechanical, and no rust, then probably see $10K-$15K for it?

That's called a "fish plate".

I also see some cool rides in the background in the second picture.

Looks like a 60's Mustang, and a 53-56-ish Ford pick-up?

The truck is a 52 chevrolet with an ls conversion. Also have a 68 mustang and a chopped model A coupe. Obviously something has to go and it will probably be the 1st gen. Honestly, I got some things from my fathers estate that I value more than this truck.

Yeah, the key is ... NO RUST.

Low mileage increases the cost as well. Being that the frame is chopped, you might not get those numbers, but if you want to see what it can get, take lots of pix and put it up on Ebay, making sure you post lots of photos of the spliced area, as anyone who knows these rigs are going to want to see those areas in particular...

Thats exactly what Im thinking of doing. The truck was painted three years ago. Its ok but not great but the painter didnt fix the minor rust it has so its still visible. One small hole in the drivers rocker panel and a few small bubbles above the drivers side windshield. Unfortunately I dont have inside storage for it like my father did so it will continue to deteriorate if I keep it.

Mechanically its in good shape. I did just drive it 400 miles.
