No, no tach. There are a bunch of things I'd like to acquire for this truck, gauges among them. Unfortunately, this Depression has cut my income in half. Then again, maybe I'll find some cheap gauges on Craigslist or something. Stacks and a second heated fuel tank would be cool, too.

So I guess it's just normal for these motors to be running really high and loud as heck while inching along at 35mph in third ?

Why would you run 35 in 3rd unless you were pulling a load or accelerating hard through the gears?

Because that is the acceptable speed on the narrow streets in my neighborhood...about 30-35mph.

I thought it was bad to run the Getrag in Fourth under 40mph ?

I wouldn't load it hard, but just driving around won't hurt it. Heck, at 35 mph on flat ground I'm usually in 5th.

Oh, I've been under the impression the while time I've owned this truck that it is bad to "lug" the Getrag. Meaning don't run 4th gear under 40mph or it destroys the 'Rag.

Hmm....4th runs OK at 30mph, it's just those horrible groans it makes that bother me...

gauges are a must when you start turning the power screw in. as a matter of fact, they're a must before you do ANY mod that may add more fuel. more fuel typically adds heat. so higher egt's is what you'll see. you should at least get an egt probe and gauge and soon. once you toast (coke) those bearings and wheel shafts inside and overspeed that turbo, you'll be screaming yourself.

Yeah, I know. I turned the fuel screw back down anyway, couldn't get it to idle correctly with it turned up.

If you're accelerating to say get on the highway, then yes. But if you're loafing through town at 30mph then its ok. But once you get out of town and you're going to accelerate then down shift to 3rd then back up to 4th.
