Hypothetical VE pump question....
I'm kind of looking for a 4BT motor right now...and would like a VE Pump motor. Now I've seen a few used pumps come up for sale and am surprised at how much they go for.
Now this is the hypothetical question I have been rolling around in my head for a little while now....
Could you use a 6BT VE pump and either block off 2 of the delivery valves, or redirect them into the fuel return line? You'd obviously have to make sure you match up the firing order, and lines from the 6bt IP to match the 4bt, but could this be possible? Would you cause any IP damage by blocking the injection pulse?

That would not work because there would be major timing issues. The 4bt only has 4 injection events for every 720 degrees of crank rotation. A 6bt has 6 injection events for every 720 degrees of crank rotation.

I believe VW had a 4 port VE injection pump and I've seen cutaways being described as at least "very similar" to our VEs I have no idea if they would work or not - might be a good place to start looking,

not being a pump expert I say this is a no go. The 6 cyl pump fires every 120 degrees while the 4 cyl pump fires ever 180 degrees(or 60/90 in cam degrees) so even if you blocked 2 the timing would be wrong on 2 of the 4 cylinders(if done the best possible way). I would be like putting a v8 dist in a v6 it'll probably run but it'll never be right the spacing is wrong.

Many of the VE applications other than the Cummins use smaller head/rotor assy`s, our stuff is 12mm but there are also 9&11mm heads. I think the 4bt head/rotor assy is sometimes used in high perf. 4cyl VW apps because of this
