Question Hypothetical?

I kinda wanted to throw a hypothetical out there for you guys in the know.

Let's say that I wanted to bomb my 24 valve truck and achieve the same HP and torque that a comp edge would give me without the comp edge or any other fuel box for that matter.

So, to put it another way I want to just do mechanical type mods and not mess around with any of the electronics. Further, I'm not worried about cost.

Let's hear what you think.

a set of dd2s and block the waste gate off, but i still think you need some type of boost fooler.

By no way am I in the "know" on this subject, but hypothetically, Fuel + Air = Power.
However, getting around the computer and preventing it from thowing an over-fuel or over-boost code, I would think, would be difficult.

Changing the mechanics but not the code may cause you computer problems.

Again, this is hypothetical and I am no expert in this area.

I would tend to agree.... if the injection pump is electronically controlled by the computer, I don't see how you can significantly add more fuel without a fuel box of some sort. That is unless you rip all the electronic stuff off of it and convert it to the mechanical type system found on the 12v engines...... but then what do I know - I'm just a newb.

There are some folks on here that have looked into replacing the VPstyle pumps with the P style pumps.
Basically using the 12 valve mechanics on a 24 valve engine.

Perhaps one of those members may be able to shed more light on this.

Ok let's retool this a bit. Let's run something like an edge EZ and go hog wild on the rest of the parts. As long as we don't tap into the VP at all. Now I would think this would become a bit easier right? Big injectors, higher pressure lift pump, and maybe even twins. I guess what I'm going for here is that it is possible to make some serious power without running the VP outside of its intended operating parameters. Thoughts on that scenario? Scott

There is definitely an operating range to the VP's fuel supply.
This means that you could bump up the power until the VP was unable to keep up with the fuel demands.

I dont know what amount of fuel the VP's can provide in stock form, but I think (money issues aside) that you could probably run out of fuel pretty quick.

Just a guess. I'll leave the specifics up to the more knowledgeable.

Have heard something like 400 hp without wire tap on one guys sig. on some sight. That might be the most on stock duty cycle of pump. Without more diesel propane could be added and then nitrous, but nitrous being a oxidizer has no benefit without extra fuel to burn.

The highest I've ever run on the dyno was 422hp with my comp box off but that was when I was making 653hp. Since that time I have done 700hp and didn't do a run with the box off. So basically on that run I was just using the boost fooling capabilities of the box. With twins and some special injectors I'm reasonbly confident you can go to 500hp and maybe a little more without a wire tap but the truck would be no where near streetable.

Ok now I have to ask ........What's the point of not tapping the pump? If money is no object why worry about a pump tap.

Dynoed with the comp off at 370 hp and with the ez at 410. Pm3 was on 0. By turning up the pm3 [wire tap} I gain 170hp. If money is no object, tap the pump wire and if you are nervous carry a spare vp-44. About the only special tools you need to install is a puller and torq wrench. Tim

The question didn't really have anything to do with money not being an object, but rather how far could one go, in terms of HP and torque, with the stock electronic configuration. Cost not being an issue was for the mechanical components not the electronics.

Then as folks answered it began to seem that without a boost fooler there would be an unaviodable over boost condition encountered.

So then to understand this a little better how is it exactly that the VP works in conjunction with a fueling box? Is the pulse width (in terms of crank degrees) of the injector made to be larger with a fueling box; thereby, injecting more diesel and resulting in shorter pump life because of a longer, artificially imposed duty cycle? Or is it something else.

FYI I'm running the edge comp WITH THE WIRE TAPPED. I ain't skeered!

I kinda figured the reasoning behind the question and understand it is hypothetical.

Fueling boxes extend the duration of fueling or provide a longer fuel pulse. The injector lines are a fixed size therefore to increase the hp you have to increase pressure or extend the pulse duration. VP's die just as easy without a box as they do with a box it seems. In theory you are correct though.
