Cooling Fan
I've been trying figure out the difference between a 1st gen fan and a 2nd gen. It appears that 1991-98 use the same fan. 2000-02 have a different one. Can someone please explain the difference. I'm thinking it's either the size or the pitch of the blade. I want to get another fan that will draw more.
Thanks
Mike

im running a gm big block 7 blade from pick a part, some older cadillacs had large fans too, when the clutch locks up, it screams, they will bolt to your clutch, take a tape measure

I tried a 7 one of the many mopar 7 blade fans I have around. They would bolt up fine to the clutch, but the off set and pitch of the blades made them hit the harmonic balancer.
I currently have a 2nd gen fan on a new clutch assembly, on my Non-IC pulley hub. No fan shroud yet since the Non-IC fans are 24" and the later 2nd Gen units are 26". But regardless it seems to sure pull a lot of air.

I am running a 2nd gen fan and clutch and the new fan has a different pitch on the blades which is supposed to move more air...however, the upgraded mopar clutch fan definitely does not kick as soon as the old one, it has to get pretty hot (220) compared to my last one....

Thanks guys for the input. A guy who works near me has a 24 valve. I looked at his fan and the only thing I saw different was the pitch. I'm getting one off an 01 24V, I hope it fits and does what I want.

I'm reminded that this is one of the reasons I went to an electric fan: my shroud was wrecked and the fan spun HARD even cold. Kind of dangerous working around the engine bay when idling. Electric was the only option I had at that impecunious time.

Dang I threw it out on my last move. Shortly thereafter I took a swing thru S.E. BC and if Ymir was anywhere near I'd've handed it to you gratis. That thing swinging away in the engine bay with a partial shroud was like a big saw.
