fan Fan FAN~!!!!
OK, first let me say I have NOT replaced my thermostat.
However, let me describe my fans operation.
My problem is towing at 10mph at 1800-2000 rpm's steep grades. Fan operation, judged by fan roar, runs about 1% of the time. It will run right after I start it and keep below 1500 rpm's or it will kick on for a brief time below 1500 when ever it feels like it which is no where near enough & below the rpm's that I am pulling at anyway making it useless.
Questions:
1)describe your fans habits so I can judge mine. Please include rpm's, etc
2)just go out and get a clutch and be done with it??
Love my CTD hate my fan clutch Big Jimmy

Every time I rev mine from an idle the fan makes all kinds of noise then quiets down around 17-1800 RPMs. If at lower RPMs at takes longer, but does eventually quiet down. This behavior suggests to me it is centrifugly controlled, but as far as I know it it thermostatically controlled.
I got no overheat problem. In fact it underheats, even when towing, so I'm not concerned about the fan clutch and all its noise.
