'92 D350 Rescue
I recently purchased a 1992 D350. Unfortunately, the previous owner was not very knowledgeable about... stuff. He did several mods to the truck which were entirely counter productive. Shortcuts were taken and much of it was heartbreaking. In this thread I will document the rescue and restoration of my Cummins truck.

The body was in great shape. No rust and no damage other than the hole in the hood that was cut for a stack... then patched with a piece of a street sign. The mudflaps are ridiculous; 2nd gen mounted crooked on the front and NAPA in the rear. The flatbed isn't stock, but it's in good shape so I'll keep it. The truck drives great and the getrag 360 shifts nice and smooth. The cab doesn't rattle at all and the interior is excellent.

AHH, the old fixing sheet metal with road signs.
That rarely come out great.
Nice looking truck, and welcome aboard.

This is the "HX40" that came the truck. One look at it and we can clearly see it is in fact an H2D. This turbo charger spools slower and flows less than the stock one. My EGT's were running very high even during regular driving. the slightest grade uphill and I was touching 1050. At first I thought was my injectors so I pulled them and swapped them with stock injectors from a buddies truck, his truck was running rough so we swapped them back. The next day I put a stock turbo charger on and my EGT's are much lower and the engine is producing much more power.

The exhaust manifold was also due for a replacement. When drilling and tapping for the EGT probe, the previous owner "welded" a bung to the manifold and ruined the holes for the studs when he attached a t3-t4 adapter. Luckily I happen to have a couple Cummins blocks mostly in tact in my back yard so scavenging the part was easy.

The hood was waiting for me at a junk yard. The mud flaps and trip have been removed and that ridiculous push bar has been snatched off. Being Held on by only two 18mm bolts it wasn't much use anyways.

My next task was to delete the ridiculous fuel filter system. Hot air is blown across it and it restricts my fuel flow. Luckily, the original fittings were attached to the lines so it was easy to remove. My engine bay looks cleaner and 15 pounds I don't need are gone.

All in all a really nice truck though.
It must have been owned by a kid at one time.

The guys that say "check out my CUSTOM fuel filter set up"
But all you can see when you peer into the engine bay is some cobbled up junk.
That exhaust probe welded on bung is pretty "custom" too!
Basically ruined a manifold, as it was drilled right in the center too, by the look of it.

I bet that bar stock holding the filters weighs all of 15 pounds by its self.
