Earthquake in Southern California
Hey we just had a little 4.4 magnitude earthquake here in Southern California at 4:04 A.M. doesn't seem to be any damage so far.

We are so overdue out here. The main surprise is that we haven't had a solid 6.5 or greater recently. Chile just raised the pressure even more.
Time to go back to the Hawaii where earthquakes are more fun!

Welcome to shaky Southern California
Ok here is a video that was captured by one of my surveillance cameras facing South but interestingly enough the cameras that face East and West hardly had any movement.
This camera is securely mounted to a 2” mast mounted through my roof.
Here is a lot of interesting reading from the USGS
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquak...72.php#details
This earthquake was really light compared to most of the ones that I have been through, the last time there was an earthquake at this fault was on October 1st.1987 it was a 5.9 and it did extensive damage to the town of Whittier.
I was awake and starting to walk to the kitchen when this one hit, I just felt one jolt and it felt like it was deep, and a loud sound hit the house that was more like a sonic boom from the space shuttle.
This was really quick maybe a few seconds where as most of them last quite a bit longer maybe 5 or 6 seconds even though most people think they go on for minuets.
Compare this quake to the one we had back in 07/29/2008 this is what they usually feel like.
I immediately checked the Internet but it was real slow to find any information even from USGS
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/
or
Caltech
http://www.data.scec.org/recenteqs/M...s_Angeles.html
But my scanner was going crazy with all of the police and fire departments checking in, the first thing they do here is to move all of their equipment out of the station and into the parking lot then they have to go and check the bridges, dams and other critical infrastructure for any damage.
Most people are here are scared to death of earthquakes but I am not.

Doesnt matter how many earthquakes I have experienced. Its the ones that wake me up from a dead sleep that freak me out the most. Good vids! Another reason I need to get a good camera system.
