baby carseat that fits 01 ram
baby carseat that fits 01 ram
This new mom gets to drive hubby's nice truck, (sportscar in the garage). Problem is I can't figure out which car seat fits best in the back seat of the quadcab. 5 mo baby needs a COMFY RIDE! Its 45 minutes to the mall. any suggestions appreciated.
I don't know what year YOUR
truck is, but if it is one of the newer quad cabs ( 03-04.5 ) then any will work because they do have a little more room in the back seat. I have an 01 quad, and a 9 month old daughter. I have the Titan 5 made by evenflo, and she has plenty of room. I have even had my 2 1/2 year old nephew in his car seat, which is a little bigger, facing foward in the back with no problem. The only time I have had any hint of a problem is when we have both in the back, and his car seat is behind the drivers seat. The only reason that is a problem is becacuse he has figured out that if he tries hard enough, he can kick the back of the seat when I drive. I have my seat almost all the way back, and slightly reclined.
P.S.
The wife lets me call it My truck
. As we both know, us married men own nothing, we are allowed to use the wife's when she says it's OK.

I have the Alpha/Omega in my 98 QC, passenger side. Worked well when my boy was a baby facing rear. Turned it around and still works well.
We also have a Britax Wizard in the family van. Rather expensive, but my son loves it. Very comfortable.
The biggest problem with the A/O is that the child restraint straps twist something fierce. I gave up on trying to untwist them. The Britax doesn't twist.
We used a Graco infant carrier in the van and that worked well too. My son used to sleep in it at home too. Preferred it to the basinet.

I removed the center front seat/council from our 95 and 01 ram and tethered the baby seat in the middle of the back seat. That gave plenty of room for which ever one of us was sitting in the passenger seat to turn and be able to reach our daughter if she needed anything. On the 01 we often remove the center when we go on long road trips. It gives my daughter more leg room and we also found a cooler than fits perfectly in the brackets for the center seat for soda and sandwiches.
I was banned per my own request for speaking the name Pelosi

Dodgemom, when you find a seat you like, go to your local police, or nearest state police post. They probably have an officer trained on installation, that will be happy to show you how the first time. I know it doesn't sound like rocket science, but you literally HAVE to climb in and put your full body weight in the seat (on your knees usually) while you cinch up the seatbelt, in order for it to be secured properly. They may even have free, new, seats to hand out from time to time. Good luck.
I have the Britax Marathon (American Flag rendition; for a car seat, it's pretty cool, I guess) strapped in the middle of the back seat w/the LATCH tethers. Works great & it leaves the seats on each side open.

In fact we are heading up to Saphire Valley, NC at 3:00 pm edt today, with 4 adults, and 2 kids in car seats. We have done it before, but not for a 600 mile trip. I will let you know how it turned out when we get back from vacation.
My wife had this Britax thing, it cost me 300 bucks. Keeps my little boy safe, so that's all that matters.
Firestorm,
Sounds like you are getting out of FLA. at the right time?! Hope all is well with you after the storm!!

Thanks to all! I did have the sherriff check the install on the infant carrier, he says he has the Britax. I have also like the comfort (padding) of the evenflo titian 5. I did contact dodge and they referred me to my local dealer for install asstiance. Sad to say the guy in service gave me the brush off. eeerrrrrr! Guess its a trip to babies r us. Your're right on when you say you need to climb in and stand on it to get it tight enough! Twisting those straps is a bugger too! Thanks for narrowing the playing field, all of the ones you mentioned were the oneswe had been looking at. A 16lb 4mo in a carrier is getting to be a little to much to lift in and out.
All you southerners be safe out there! I'm up here in the Northwest out on the mouth of puget sound and can somewhat relate. Sounds like you won't be fishing much this weekend
Thanks Again,

Well, I'm back
, why are vacations so short? It was a pretty decent trip, except for the fact that my brother and I like to drive and sit almost in a laying position. We had to set our seats up just a tad for the wives in the back. As far as having the car seats in there, it worked out pretty good. We were all able to use our lap with the car seats, as cup holders and arm rests. The only thing is, there is not quite enough room to lay into the door/wall with the car seats in there. Thanx, McMopar, this vacation has been planned for over a year, and we decided we were not going to let a hurricane ruin it. As it is we got a ton of rain in N.C., but it just made the water falls more attractive.
