What fits, what hits
I'm ordering a 2500 HO/6 speed and down to choosing the gear ratio. For me it comes down to what size tire I can fit on the rig in stock form. Will a 35" tire fit without a lift? I have 33" BFG's on my '97 1500 without any problems.

I'm ordering it with the snowplow prep group. The Dodge information does not mention if that includes heavier spring rates up front. In the past it always did, but it's conspicuosly absent from the list now.

Howdy, Commando - a warm WELCOME to the site. ;D

There's more room under the new design 2500 HD's. I did plan on using a 2" leveling kit but, after cycling the suspension for the last week with no rubbing, if I do the leveling kit it'll just be for better looks.

What's just as important is I used the stock rims. It's critical to match the stock offset. The 8" wide rims that come stock on these new trucks run the 35" tires great. Check out the "mudflaps" thread in this forum for a pic of my tires up close. You'll see they fit the rims well.

Also, check out the specs on the tires you're looking at. The BFG AT's actually spec out to 34.6" tall with a 12" section width. Virtually all of the tires I considered tend to run a bit small.

The HO Cummins easily pulls the larger tires. I was running 2100 RPMs at 70 MPH before - now at 1900 RPMs after. Feels just right to me.

The snowplow option no longer includes different springs.

Good luck with it. Hope you get your new truck soon!

Best to y'all
Bill

Commando

Welcome aboard, there is a full thread of 3.73 and 4.10 gear ratio chat on the forum. And lots of other great info you won't find anyplace else.

After all, where could you find a better bunch of Cummins boys and girls with full tool belts that are checking every nook and cranny of our new babies?

Me, I am not mechanical et all. Just sit back and soak up the good info. No wrenches will be turned on my baby by me!

But sure is good to see what problems are arising, way before DC even has a twinkle in their recall book.

Me thinks DC should assign someone to read the forum every day, they might learn a trick or too

Why don't you get on that Jack, put a bug in their computer

Welcome aboard!

Hunter

Nope, Commando - no rubs even at full lock. 8)
It really was surprising to me I had the room I needed for the 35's. The dealer was surprised too - I guess mine is the first in the area to do it.
Best to y'all

Re:What fits, what hits
Yeah - the big change came 'cause on the 2002 1500 series they enlarged the body wheel wells to fit the Sport 33" tire option (20" wheel).

So, we got the same body as the 2002 1500 series BUT gained 4" of lift with the 4x4 HD suspension. Put the larger opening + the extra height of the 2500/3500 and we can fit 35's stock! Woooo Hoooo - cheap and easy, my friends, just the way I like 'em! ;D

AWWWW Shucks - I went and had installed the 2" leveling kit today regardless of the room for the tires - I just had to have a bigger truck! See my "Leveling Kit" thread on this same forum. I also updated my pics.

Best to y'all
Bill
