The cap from my 98 fits!! WooHoo!!!!!
I didn't think my (like new) old cap would fit so I had it up for sale. When I got the new truck I measured and the truck was 3 " wider than the cap.
I just figured they changed the size of the bed. Well, I did not know that the front of the bed is about 3-4" wider than the rear. I had measured the rear of the cap and the front of the truck!! I'm so stupid!!
Anyways, now I have a cap but the only problem is that it's the wrong color. Its silver so it doesn't look too bad on the blue truck but I'm probably gonna get it painted blue in the future.
;D ;D ;D

I did not have a question about aftermarket accessories. I was basically stating that the bed of my truck (not engine or drivetrain or aftermarket accessories) was the same size as my 98 bed (not engine or drivetrain or aftermarket accessories) So the cap fit!!!

Well, I stopped at a body shop yesterday and they wanted $6-700 just to paint it!!
If it's gonna cost that much then it will stay silver..
I'm going to check a couple more places and I'm sure I can get it done much cheaper....

Check your local high school auto body shop.
You might find they need a "project", or a painter that does side work.

Ed

I would suggest you paint it yourself. A low cost spray gun can be picked up for under $50 (even less). The paint would run you about 75 to 100 dollars and another 30 to 50 in misc items. I'm sure you could borrow a compressor if you don't have one.

The nice thing about the cap is that it is lite enough to move. You could set it up so the the part you are spraying is flat or almost flat to help minimize runs.

If you do your homework first, you will gain confidence in "attempting" this project. If you do seriously consider this, let me know, I would be more than happy to "talk you through it". While I am not a professional painter, I have restored many vintage motorcycles, and painted a few cars/trucks in my day. Good luck, Kevin

Thanks KD460, I have a good friend who used to do paint & body work. He did a couple cars that won awards in the World of Wheels. Unfortunately he broke his neck in a diving accident and now he doesn't paint anymore. He's always is willing to give advice though...
If it is gonna cost a couple hundred bucks to do it myself than I will try to find someone to do it for me on the side...
