instead of buying another 97 or 98.4 CTD to get a 5sp. may just upgrade my current TC and valve body instead.

yeah this is the same issue im having right now. i just about sold my 97 auto for a 97 5 speed toner but yeah 97's all the way...now i just have to find a 215 pump or add some lazer cut DV's to really have an even more kick a$$ motor

I would like to know why everyone seems to like the 03-04 CR trucks vs the 04.5+.....and are you talking the SO or HO 03-04. What makes them better?
