the accepted terminology is "98 12v"

aka 98.4 Dodge

98.5 implies it's a 24v

make it a short bed, and I'm on board

Exactly, I have Hydro-Boost brakes, 215hp P-Pump, the good A/C controls, the dash cubby hole, all of them are long beds (I don't like shortbeds) I'm a happy guy!

I like longbeds, but I grew up in the big city... a club/long is a LONG truck!!!!! the short bed makes it easier to maneuver.

but if I ever go and buy a dually, it'll be a 97

dont know about the 12 valvers but for the 2nd gen 24valves i think01- 02 was a very good year no chance of 53 block and a better style fuel filter canister

I like the 01-02's, but for the money they fetch, I'd just buy a 3rd gen

If you go with a 24v, the late 01's and the 02 gets you the good rear brakes.

That said, I had an 02 and vow to never own another truck with an electric lift pump or VP injection pump. I spent big bucks to do a completely custom fuel system and still had troubles. It's mechanical for me from here on out.

My 99 was a shortbed for that reason. I loved it 90% of the time. But that remaining 10% drove me insane! Now I can haul 3 dogs, 2 coolers, and a weekend's worth of gear in the bed!

good man, my last three trucks were 2wd, and I loved them! I really don't have much use for 4wd, but I hope to try it out this summer at the cabin in Colorado
