Drag Wars
yeah I was looking at that.. but they want 80 bucks to ship it up to me here.... I can get a similar one from Greggs for 199,,, so I think I am going to go that route
Mike I dont want to run lower compression,, in my warped mind that is going backwards... if you run lower compression, then you just need more boost to make up for it,, and also your 60' time is going to suffer.
Kev, which pistons you thinking about using?
Is the crankshaft the same for all the 5.9L years? We have a few different years of cranks to choice from? You could almost try a set of 12V or 24V for Kev's truck, for a season and see if they are enough. You could always pull the motor after each race and check the rods?
For $2.7K, you could almost pay for a failure.

yes on the porting on the head,,, as for the cam I am going to talk to Zach Hamilton and see what he has to say, I am also going to talk to Greg Hogue. Got some prices from Dr P on a few things today, like the girdle and arp kit, arp 625's and a engine diaper, and the electric water pump.
I always have to weigh my wants, with my needs!! LOL Let me know if I can help in anyway.
Hamilton's cams are ground at Colt Cams in Aldergrove, BC. Geoff (owner of Colt) is a big supporter of local drag racing, and is out most weekends at either mission or Ashcroft. He has built a sbc cam, a number of vw diesel cams, as well as a couple of honda cams for me. I highly recommend him. IIRC the price straight from him or through harry @ peak is a few $$$ cheaper then advertised on most forums.
The engine that it was demonstrated on, was a bbc 454, but Luke I have no doubt you build more engines a month then I have in my life time. I have put together exactly one cummins bottom end before. A number of sbf, sbc, sbm, honda, vw, mazda, ect... But I am by no means an expert in HD engine building, or engine building in general. There is always a big difference in some one who gets paid to do something vs some one that has to pay to do something.
EDIT: I have never tested this theory since it was shown to me, I always just put the engine on a firm surface to check clearances.

a BBC is a pretty flimsy block in the scheme of things.
I'm just sayin don't sweat the small stuff. really.
honestly in an inframe overhaul. you do a bearing roll. slap the main back up. no measuring. new kits, torque 'em up. theres no HD engine builders that I've ever met that actually measures any bearings on reassembly inframe or out of frame. Thats just the way it is in the bussiness. I do't know why but it is. mostly I guess its just never a problem.
For the head Mike I am going to get a good port job done. Make sure all fhe valves are good,, and such,, going to get a good set of pushrods too.
Thanks Greg,, i will probably have lots of questions for you,, I appreciate your help!
Im going to leave the stock intake on, just cant afford that right now,, but I think I am going to try one of those wilson thrasher air intakes on it

It does make a difference. You gonna port the head? A home porting is enough to make a difference.
