Smarty Jr setting?
From a stop, she'll smoke pretty good in SW2, TM4...
I do agree though, the smoke is considerably lower when at cruising speed and slightly roll in the throttle. Used to get a good bit of smoke when i'd do this. But now not so much!

AH64ID,
I thought they were the same as well. But the truck seems to drive differant.
I set it on SW3/D/D before my trip and it drove like great and milage went up as well (according to the OH)
Thinking back on it, I ay have had it set differant as I was plang around with differant setting.
I'll leave it as is for now untill the weather gets bad.

Wire up a set of aux. back-up lights on a separate switch.......aircraft landing gear lights work great. Quick flick and it'll look like a flash went off in your rear view mirror.
I really like the Economy setting.... it pulls really strong in the midrange.. whichs is where I have always felt this truck was the weakest. But, i wasn't sure about how it was for pulling heavy... the egt seems to run cooler unloaded.... Will be pulling with it Thursday, gonna leave the programming in it, in the past, i have put it back to stock when pulling..
Towing is the #1 reason I bought the Smarty Jr. I have never understood removing it to tow. The stock timing is not programmed for economy/power/performance. SW1 is timing only, and shows what the motor can really do!
SW is softare 1= economy, 2 = towing, 3 = performance.
As for EGT's your stock EGT's were in the 1450° range, but if you go that hot with added timing you will melt something.
Here is what I use...
Smarty Jr rule of thumb for 04.5-07 5.9's.
TM1: 1400 max cont, 1450 momentary
TM2: 1300 max cont, 1350 momentary
TM3: 1350 max cont, 1400 momentary
TM4: 1250 max cont, 1300 momentary

I don't know folks but I run SW2 and defaults for Tq and timing. I get an honest 16mpg imperial towing a 15000lb 5th wheel. Unloaded it accelerates like never before and gets 25mpg or 21usmpg but thats at about 60-65mph max. What am I doing different. You are not going to get VW diesel mileage out of these things and every time you floor it put 2 or 3c in a jar on the dash to see how much money you are throwing out the exhaust. Anywhere from 18-21mpgus is probably pretty good in engine setup and your individual driving habits.
truck felt really good pulling today... I think the camper is right around the 8800-9200lb range... Didnt have to push the throttle hard, egt was great... its really is amazing what happens when you remove the government (EPA) from the equasion..
