Smarty Jr setting?

Hey guys,

Sorry I know this has been beat to death but I am trying to find the best setting for my jr for MPG for the truck in my sig. I am currently on SW1 TM2 TQ4. I think I like TQ2 much better. The truck also seems to like it better as well. I tried SW2 TM2 TQ2 and TQ4 but the MPG was not that great. What are all you guys useing on your lifted trucks with 35`s??

Thanks!!

In my expierence SW3 torque 2 timing 2 is my best mileage but I have no lift and no 35" tires! Your driving style and lift / tires will be a big factor. Best thing to do is try a setting for a full tank and do a hand calculation and then try another. It takes time to find just the right setting.

Thanks! I don`t have gauges yet so I am scared to try SW3. I hated TQ 4 on SW1 TM2. No power. Gear hunting going up hills like crazy etc. I am on SW1 TM2 TQ2. Going to try that for now.

Anyone else?

I saw no difference in any of my settings. Don't expect miracles, especially with those big tires. Just enjoy the power and the better driveability that the Jr. provides and don't kill yourself trying to get crazy mileage out of it.

Think of this you will have more power and little gains in mpgs but more power with no lose? you gained more then you think.

AH64ID 09-28-2011 06:03 AM

You should see a little more power in the higher settings with an auto becuase it won't have to downshift or unlock the tq converter as often.

With a stock auto on 35's I would set it at SW2 TM2 TQ3 and see how it does. It may take a few tanks to take the grin factor off your face and let your right foot relax.

Start saving for a trans, or at least a VB and TQ converter.

I just found my sweet spot. 07 3500 Steel Flat Bed, 373's, Foor Door, Six Speed. Smarty Jr Settings Sw2, 2, 2 and Fueling set at 65 instead of 99. 63k miles on truck and it just got the best Fuel Econo it has ever gotten. Highway 65 mph 2000rpm, cruise, A/C going, no headwind and busted into 20mpg and was hand figured not computer, this was over a 250mile run. Turned around and was still empty "RV we went to look at was a piece of Crap LOL" headed home, all was the same except I ran the Truck at 70mph 2200/2300 rpm, Cruise, A/C and pretty good head wind, 19 miles per gallon, figured on paper not computer. I like. I am Happy.

Next? I think I am going with a AFE Air System and be done. And my Truck has Straight Exhaust. Otherwise Stock.

BUTT!! My 98 and 97 will still run circles around this one! LOL

I've got a similar set-up (2" leveling kit with 35s)
I've been running SW2, TQ2,TM4. Truck seems to really like this setting...nice throttle response and MUCH lower smoke with this latest v21 software.
I echo what the other guys have said, if I were looking for better mileage, I would not be running 35s. However, I'm happy with the 17-18 mpg I'm currently getting (and a lot of that depends on how I "feel like driving" on that tank).
A lot of my driving is round' town, so SW2 works well for me. However, I dial up to the SW3 settings when I go on trips from Charlotte to ATL and such and have been around the 18-20 mpg range. Again, this is the case if I don't act a fool. (It's just too hard to stay off the skinny pedal at HWY speeds considering she will ramp from 60 to 80 at the drop of a hat with minimal throttle.

And yes, AH64ID nailed it....already have the wife budgeting for a complete tranny rebuild (she told me to give her till' this time next year...we'll see if I can keep out of the throttle for that long. Takers on the over/under...?)

Well my MPG has went to hell. Dropped from 17-18 to 14-15 on SW1 TQ2 TM2

So I just changed to defaults with SW1. I am pretty sure I am not driving all that hard. TQ4 gave me the best but i cant stand to drive it on that. Whats defaults going to be like?

AH64ID 10-04-2011 07:54 PM

SW1 TQ2 TM2 is the same as default.

There is no fueling over stock on SW1, timing only.. If your mileage drops you are most likely driving harder.

What version of the Jr. do you have?

I just installed the Smarty on my 05 5.9, i want to try the settings listed above but am unsure of their meanings...
SW TQ TM
I think the TQ is torque and TM is timing but what is SW?
Another question is how hot is too hot for EGT's? Pulling our 20' travel trailer up a steep long grade it got up to 1200* that seems high to me.

With the Smarty I got up to 23 MPG the truck is lifted 3" with 33" tires, stock other than the tuner, very happy with that :)

AH64ID 10-05-2011 05:44 AM

SW is softare 1= economy, 2 = towing, 3 = performance.

As for EGT's your stock EGT's were in the 1450° range, but if you go that hot with added timing you will melt something.
Here is what I use...

Smarty Jr rule of thumb for 04.5-07 5.9's.

TM1: 1400 max cont, 1450 momentary
TM2: 1300 max cont, 1350 momentary
TM3: 1350 max cont, 1400 momentary
TM4: 1250 max cont, 1300 momentary

Thanks, I tried the SW2 and the truck ran a little rough is this normal? was also a little hard starting. I am trying the SW1 now, any ideas on what TQ and TM should be on SW1?
Sure is fun being able to tweak the trucks performance with a few buttons I onlt wish my 93 was this easy!! [laugh]

AH64ID 10-05-2011 07:28 PM

Don't forget you have to load the software after adjusting the options.

No running rough isn't normal. SW1 TM2 TQ4 on a stock auto. Make sure the Jr has the newest software loaded on it.
