Boost question

I purchased a used edge chip for my 03 Dodge Cummins and the brass elbo didnt come with it. I want to increase the boost pressure above stock 22 #.
I have read and heard that a boost fooler is needed. Can I put an adjustable
elboe on the turbo along with the edge chip installed and not have to do any thing else , such as a fooler. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Randy

I'd contact Edge and see if they'd sell you one of their elbows. It's pretty much like the stock one, just with a much smaller orifice. Based on my experience, whatever you pay for it ($10-$20?) it'll be worth it! 32 psi is pretty sweet.

Might want to look at the adjustable boost elbows on ebay. If you have a boost elbow installed and you remove the EZ the ECM will set a overboost code. With an adjustable one you wouldn't need to remove the elbow.

I would like a clarificaiton on that point, not trying to challenge you here. I'm not an expert on these trucks (but I do change my oil).

It seems to me that the way the EZ is installed, the ECM is pretty much "blind" to its presense. It takes a fueling signal from the ECM, adds x% and sends the signal on to the rail. Why would the ECM notice an overboost without the EZ in place? The EZ doesn't send any data back to the ECM does it? What piece of info am I missing? Is it the boost-to-fuel ratio that triggers the code?

The EZ has a built in boost fooler. It intercepts the MAP sensor voltage and clamps the voltage from going higher than stock, which I believe is a little over 4v. So with a boost elbow the boost goes higher than stock, and so does the voltage. So the higher voltage will cause the ECM to set a over boost code if the EZ is not present.

Well that's good to know. Might be too late for me though, I ran mine just the other day without the EZ in place, but didn't have time to remove the Edge supplied boost elbow. I don't think I ever hit more than 25 psi though. Would the overboost code show up as a "thrown codes"?

Don't know if it will trip the MIL. Might want to try the key trick (on/off/on three times) to see if any codes are displayed.
25psi may still be in the normal parameters for the ECM.

Did the boost elbow make that big of a difference in performance? What level did you run the EZ at?
Right now I'm running the EZ at level two without a boost elbow. Wonder if it makes a difference on the lower settings.
