Uping the boost w/ a boost elbow question...

I am looking at getting a set of EDM 100hp sticks and a Holley blue for the truck in my sig. I have had a boost elbow for a little while now, just not installed. I have a couple of questions about installing the boost elbow with the above mods and the mods in my sig...

1. How much boost can the stock turbo make effeciently?

2. How much boost can I run before I need to get a boost fooler to keep it from de fueling?

Thanks for the help!!

1. Up to 34 PSIG or so.

2. You won't make over approximately 21 PSIG before the wastegate opens. If you install the boost elbow to keep that from happening, you'll just defuel and set an overboost code at around 23 PSIG or so.

The boost elbow does no good without a boost fooling device.

Thanks...

How do I know if I have thrown an overboost code? As my truck sits right now it will spike 28-29 and then level off at about 24-25.

Does the Superchips programmer include boost fooling in its programming?

What is the cheapest/easiest way to get a boost fooler?

Or do I just have to get a programmer with it built into the programming?

Thanks Again!

I just noticed the Smarty in your signature. Not being familiar with it, I'm not sure if it eliminates the overboost defueling limits of the stock ECM or not. Let's see what the Smarty experts say.

The SMARTY is just on the "Coming Soon" part of my sig...

The only programmer that I have on my truck is the Superchips right now...

I'd imagine the Superchips has some boost fooling capability. I sincerely doubt you'd see 29 psi if it didn't. It's even more curious that you could see that kind of boost with the stock elbow in place??

Once, we ran my truck on the dyno with just DD3's, forgot to load a Smarty software, and it defueled so fast it was comical... so what I'm saying is that you'd notice it if it was defueling.

To the best of my knowledge, Smarty programs have an unlimited boost limit in the various boost tables. The most I've run is a peak of 38psi which is slightly outside of the efficiency range of my HX-35.

If the computer is seeing an overboosting condition will it kick the check engine light or anything or can you just feel it?

Mine never kicked a CEL but you'll definitely notice it... you can do the key trick to see if you've set any codes.

cycle the key on/off on/off on (keep it to the on position) then look at the odometer as it will display codes in the form of numbers.

go here for codes...FAULT CODES

P0234 is overboost.

Stock HO will get to 26 psi boost according to this site:
http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/Facts/01ISBspecs.html

Also, the Superchips programmer does not have any boost fooling capabilities at all, I had one B4 the Edge EZ I own now. Any boost much over that 26-28 psi will set the DTC for overboost I would think, at least if it is sustained.

My Superchips programmer gave me a P0216 code when truck was hot and I was pulling my RV. No such code in same or more severe conditions with the Edge EZ, and the Edge does boost fooling.

You can also buy a separtate boost fooling device (sometimes referred to as an "anti-defueling device" or A.D.D.), but they are getting hard to find from what I read. I had one in combo with my Superchips. I still like the Edge better.

Did you like the edge by itself over the superchips by itself or did you stack them?

Never did stack them. The SC was cheaper, but I like the Edge a whole lot better. Power feels roughly the same, but i think that the Edge is a better product overall, and the service at Superchips sucks. I sent a couple of questions via email when i was trying to decide what to put on my (new to me) truck. I got back a two word answer for a paragraphs worth of questions. I haven't had to call or email Edge, but I hear their service is great. Go with Edge.

I got a question, if the smarty does boost fool, what kind of psi should I be seeing? Only get up to about 18-19 or so, or do I need a boost elbow like GibletC.
