04 Auto....H.O. ????

I am going to look at a 04 one ton in a couple of days. The dealer said it is an auto but it has the H.O. motor!! Is this correct? I don't know about the 3rd gens but I thought all H.O.'s were manual (6 spd). I wanted to make sure before I have to tell the dealer what he is really selling !!! Thanks in advance.

The "H.O." is the 305/555 motor that preceeds the ISB 325/600, or Cummins 600 that was used starting in the 2004.5. It has 305 Hp and 555 ft/lb torque.
It came in auto or manual tranny trucks. The H.O. is a rock solid performer. One issue with this drivetrain is the 47RE tranny used. The 2004.5 up vehicles come with the 48RE tranny (somewhat improved). The Allison tranny that comes with the 6 speed manual is bulletproof and is the same pre 2004.5 and post 2004.5
Cheers

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I was really looking for a 6 spd. but I don't really tow enough to need it just like the idea of having a bullet proof trans (especially if you notice what I have now)!!!!!! He said this truck is extra nice and avaliable with a 7yr/70000 mile power train warranty. I hope all goes well and thanks for the help!

Mine is also an 03 with a HO/48RE. Not sure on the month of build. You can easily look and see the power of pretty much any Cummins by looking on the front cover. There is a metal plate with all of the engine's specs. on it. My 95 says 165, my 03 is 305.

Question 305 vs 325 Notice a big diference on power or fuel economy

My pops has an 05/325hp 1 ton dies, crew. I have the same but an 04/305 with 35" tires getting a BDC 6" lift as we speak.
My question is if I put a power box in, will it make any difference in power vs the 305 opposed to the 325.
I have an opportunity to buy his and sell mine. Is there such a difference that I should upgrade for the cost difference??

the guy at BD i talked to say the 04.5 and up respond much better to the boxes, he said my 04 would be "ok" but a 04.5 or an 05 with the same box and same setting would be "impressive"

i don't think it would be worth trading trucks to get ~25 hp or so,
especailly the mods you are having installed today.
lot of pain, taxes, registration,

Thanks for the tranny correction. I agree that the H.O. is worth buying, nothing but respect for it here!!
