will auto 4x4 tranny work in 4x2 auto truck?

I have a 96 4x4 with auto tranny. An interested party wants to know if he can use my 4x4 tranny in his 4x2 truck. He doesnt want to make it 4x4. he just needs a good tranny. Can I remove the xfer case and bolt his tail cone on my tranny?

thanks

No you will have to change the output shaft as well, not just putting on the tailshaft housing. Good thing is it is not very hard or expensive to do so, if he can get a 2wd output shaft for cheap he can make the tranny work in his easily.

If he were to use his out put shaft, would he have to disassemble his tranny to remove it? Stupid question, I'm sure he would have to.

what would be involved in doing the switch

IIRC you can swap the output shaft with the tranny still in the truck , so i don't think it requires a complete dis-assembly.
