update: why will my truck not start??

ok i posted this a while back:
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...w-t281309.html

ok...they called today and said batteries were dead bring some. so i went and bought two brand new batteries. installed them...truck turns over like a champ but it wouldnt start. the dealer is blaming it on the egr and dpf sooted up. they unbolted the dpf and took out the o2 sensor and it still wouldnt start. there was a hint of white smoke...it would try to hit once or twice and then nothing. any ideas? i got the full complement of deletes sitting ready in my garage...short of a roll back, how can i get the truck going. if i disabled the egr system and loaded the smarty jr would it crank then? dealer is cool with the deletes...thanks guys

Did the dealer use his scan tool to find out what codes are in the ECM and what are they?
This will tell us what is the issue and how to fix your truck.

Sounds to me like you need to speak with someone up the food chain. If you drove it in there, you should be able to drive it out. Them guessing and throwing parts at it on your dime is nonsense.

As far as the dealer caring as to whether you delete or not, you have no warranty so they have no say so.

As you told me in the email, if they want to install it for you thats cool, just make sure that they do it right.

Had similar problem. My 2003 with 185k on it started to have problems starting in the morning when it got below 40 degrees. Never ever had to plug it in. Started plugging it in and it would eventually start. It cut off with me on the off ramp 2 days ago. Pulled the fuel filter out and then put it back in, started fine so I replaced the fuel filter. Ran good the rest of the day. Started not taking them fuel yesterday. Would bog down. Got another fuel filter, filled the tank with fuel, added additive. Still same problem. Got home, installed new filter, would not start. Bled the lines, filled the filter, reset the computer, nothing helped. Even tried some starting fluid. Would hit, but not run. Check forums, checked codes, code indicated new fuel pump. Was not interested in doing the upgrade to an in tank pump so I put another external pump on. Started right up. No problems so far.

Hi i am new here....... I came to see if i am the only one with this problem. my 2003 with 183k on it WILL start. however it will run really rough and spit and sputter for about 2-3 seconds, then die unexpectedly while driving down the road. and i have to turn it over quite a bit before it will start again. then it will start and die immediately, then try a few more times and it will finally start again. it might run fine for the rest of the day after that, and it might die again in 5 minutes. i had tried to see if there is a common denominator and there isn't one. full of fuel, low on fuel, warmed up, not so warmed up..... what do i need to do 1st? fuel filter? changed that not long ago, but i will do it again.

Tobsgirl, fuel pump is probably the likely cause. Check pressure and check back when its not starting. Or possbile bad fuel rail check valve?

As for the other. Ill read your old post get the back story see if i can help at all
