Why Cummins why, not drill out all the CRANKS!!!

Well guys I started my dads NV4500 conversion in his 93 W350 , auto,4x4. I got the t-case, shafts, and tranny out. Then I was looking at the crank and realized the pilot hole is to small for a 5spd input shaft tip! Why havent I read about anyone else running into this problem?? The hole there now is a hair bigger than a #2 pencil. Does anyone know what size dia the hole needs to be for the bronze bushing for a 5spd? Or how deep? I believe the hole might be deep enough but I want to be 100% sure?

We are considering his options. We might try and rent a magnent drille and see if we can use it. If not the motor is going to have to be pulled to. Anybody else run into this and if so could you please share your devine wisdom? Thank

Feighttrain, I'm presuming you looked at the write-up in the sticky on doing the install right? I'm currently clueless about tranny's, so I can't help sorry! Is there anything on Youtube, install how-to's or whatever?

I did the install on my own truck last summer. The difference is my dually was a 5spd to start. Not an auto.

Uh, doesn't the bushing mount in the flywheel?

yeah x2 ^^ not sure what you're trying to say freight train- the input shaft for any 5 speed doesn't go "in" the crank lol. It just goes in the flywheel.I don't think the input could protrude to the crank with how thick the flywheel is and how short the actual tip is.

I've converted 2 trucks auto to manual with no issues with a getrag. you've got other issues.

Guys I feel like an idiot. Your correct. I have never had a auto apart and the first thing I thought of was my old 440 days. The process will be going full speed ahead probably Sun morning if all goes well. Also does anyone know if all under dash wiring harnesses are the same for a auto and a 5spd truck? I want to be sure that the auto's harness will have a plug for the clutch pedel switch. Thanks

the only shaft issue to be had when swapping from auto to manual is at the transfer case - 23 spline count vs. 29. I'm sure you have that covered.
