Recall

I recieved a recall notice from Chrysler, " Emissions Recall J35 "
it's for 6.7 diesels from 2007 thru 2009.
it's a new download to the computer that will reduce heavy sooting of
the Turbocharger, EGR valve and diesel particulate filter

anyone else get notified ?

Yep, I got it. I have basic modifications and don't need it. If I was stock and didn't care about them locking my ECM for the future then certainly.

I never got the notice however i have had my 6.7 at the dlr twice for several days while i waited for them to clean out my turbocharger. Apparently i'm not supposed to idle! Hmm, go figure, dodge making a diesel that can't idle......anyhow, before i get off track, the last time i had it in (3 months ago) they said the "updated" the computer which changes how the truck recycles the exhaust. Or something like that. Well i have not had the ole check engine light come on since then.

Question for you Mega-engr......
When you say "didn't care about them locking my ECM for the future", what does that mean exactly? I'm new to this forum and my diesel for that matter and now wonder if the dealership somehow "locked" me out of potential "Smarty" stuff. Of course i don't know much about Smarty but everyone here seams to love it!

Yes, that is pretty much it AVProPres. I'm not stock and I would not want them updating my ECM which would (highly likely) lock me out from any programmers such as the Smarty. Smarty takes care of the ECM and emmisions junk for me all ready.

Before I got the Smarty ME version, I got all the ECM updates and they seem to improve the stock emmisions situation, such as this recall. However, lately they are updating the ECM to wreak havoc on the aftermarket. No thanks.

I suggest fixing it yourself unless you need/want to stay stock, potentially live at the dealer, and then potentially not have the choice down the road to fix for yourself.

Not only does the Smarty have super powers it also defends the innocent from the evil EPA emmisions killing the truck and your pocket book.

No worries about the ECM "lock" anymore. The prior Smarty updates could not work around the bootloader that would cause the truck to lock up and be undrivable when a programming was attempted.

The newest Smarty updates have resolved this and should able to program any of the 6.7's save for the 4th gens. Now I say this, but do your homework. Im not sure if it works with the latest recall and flash, the J35. An email to MADS would settle any doubt.

Per Bobs post on another website - Smarty S67 version 21 has been updated for the J35 recall.

J35 Recall

reduced soot to the Turbocharger and DPF has to be good, however, soot means horsepower in a diesel engine, I hope this download doesn't kill power
and fuel milage.

Not necessarily. Soot in the EGR age of diesel is just unburned fuel to keep emissions down, has nothing to do with power at all. From what I can gather they have changed the EGR routine to cycle with less flow to keep the soot load down at idle and low power situations. Also they changed the soot reduction idle sequence.

But like Mega, I took care of that myself.
