Questions
Ok at the sake of sounding dumb I have some questions. First, let me say this is my first Dodge product to own: 2003, 2500 quad cab, 4x4, 24 v Cummins, auto trans, manual shift on transfer case.
How do I know which transmission my truck is equipped with?
I need to change the differential fluids in the front/rear diffs and transfer case but don't know what to use. I did search this site extensively and found out I needed to know the gear ratio of both diffs. According to a sticker in the glove box my truck is equipped with a 9.25 front axle and 11.50 axle in the rear. The gear ratio is 3.73 with an anti-spin rear differential.
Here are the questions in no particular order. Is anti-spin a Mopar word for limited slip differential? I will be shopping at Autozone or Oreilly Auto Parts so what gear lube weights will I need and what brand do you recommend? Will I need the limited slip addative I kept reading about on several threads for the rear diff. I think I understand that the diff covers have reusable gaskets or will I need new gaskets or some high quality permatex?
Please help a brother out!
Be gentle with a new Dodge and Diesel owner. I love this truck and the Cummins Diesel is AWESOME.
Thanks,
TXPOWER

Welcome to DTR.
Many will try to get you to use a specific brand of fluid for the diffs but the main thing is to use GL-5 75w- 90 SYNTHETIC regardless of the brand of oil. You do not use the friction modifier with the AAM axels. The gaskets are reusable and it will release rather easily. Don't over torque the bolts when re-installing the cover.
The auto transmissions for the newer trucks are 48re's.
Thr transfer case requires ATF+4 fluid. The only place I know to get it is at the Dodge dealers. Someone else may know of another place to get it cheeper.

Papaduck thanks for replying. A quick follow up though.
What is an AAM Axel?
Is anti-spin the same as limited slip?
Does anyone know where I can get the ATF+4 fluid?
Thanks,
TXPOWER
