Suspension Questions: Front End Clunk, and Swaybar questions (rear)
Hey guys..
three things----
--I have a bit of a wander (big surprise) and i think the track-bar upper joint is junk...what do you guys suggest for replacement ( fabricating a mount for the newer trackbar/ replacing with just a new one/ going all-out with a new tube and a spherical rod end and custom mount, etc?)
--Also, my truck (as well as my brother's 97 never came with a rear swaybar... would this addition be worthwhile, and what benefit would we see? are the 60/70 and 80 swaybars the same?
--would it also be beneficial to add the overload springs, or just go with a set of airbags?
thanks guys..

A Luke's Link would be the cheapest/easiest repair for your track bar, and a permanent fix. Adding a sway bar won't hurt, but unless you'll be using a slide-in camper or hauling high loads, I doubt you'll see any benefit from it. Adding some overloads or bags would be good, if you'll be hauling at or near max GVW. If you won't be hauling heavy, it'd be a needless expense. The sway bar and overloads would be easily sourced at a junkyard, and definitely cheaper than buying new. I'd just get the whole spring pack, makes it a bolt-in operation. HTH

I have the factory overload springs on the '98, but if I had it to do over again I'd install airbags instead, since they are adjustable for the load and provide a measure of anti-roll control with dual air lines.
I would also recommend the swaybar (I ordered the '98 with one) for all types of driving - but I've always preferred good-handling vehicles, even if it is a behemoth truck!
