truck pulls to right

I have an annoying problem. The truck pulls right when driving down the road. The only steering component that has play in it is the track bar. Can a bad track bar cause the truck to pull to one side?

Id check your ball joints, fix that trackbar and have the alignment done before it wears your tires unevenly.
thuren trackbar is a good improvement, as is the DSS from solidsteel.biz.

Try swapping front tires from side to side and see if it pulls to the left then. You may have a seperated tire.

I've owned two of these and they both liked to pull to the right. I just accepted it over time but my current one needs to have the track bar and all the tie rod ends replaced. That may help.

Mine started pulling to the right. I'm getting a worn track bar replaced with an 03 unit. By the way how difficult is it to replace ? I was thinking of parking between 2 trees and using a come-along to center the body if it shifts.

It will shift when you remove the track bar, but you don't need the trees. Simply go from the pass side axle (shock mount works), over to the drivers side frame. Cinch it up until it lines up. I usually install the ball stud end first and only thread the nut on a few threads. This will give you a little "play" to align the other end.

Just noticed you had a '99.

Check for a spacer.
It's supposed to be on the front (forget what side though),
but often it sticks to the rim and gets rotated with the tires.

Others with 99's can let you know what side it's supposed to be on.

Edit: Found out what side, the right side.
Here's another thread discussing it, it has a link to the TSB regarding the spacer as well.

There never was a spacer there. At least since I got the truck. I do have 285 BFG on there if that makes any difference. All the front end parts are good. Everything is tight except for the track bar. Would you guys recommend getting a new track bar for $140 with lifetime warranty OR trying to repair it with Lukes link?

Well, if it's anything like new Ford's, they all pull slightly to the right. They made it like that so if you become unconcious while driving, you won't drift into oncoming traffic... Not sure if the newer dodges do this also, just thought I'd mention it.

I'd imagine it would work on these trucks, but when I was putting in my adjustable track bar on my 78 F-150, I just had somebody turn the steering wheel until it lined up and I could pop the bolt through. Without the bar installed, I was able to shift the truck a good 6" back and forth without the front wheels moving.

It works on these Dodges also and is the method I always use.
No need to jack the truck up to replace the trackbar, it will just make it harder.
