1998 12 valve

I found a 1998 quad cab 12 valve auto, new paint looks mint, 118,000 miles guy wants 12,500 obo what do you guys think? Is it worth it and what price is it truly worth? Is there anything I should look for?

2WD? 4WD?

I'd be curious why it has new paint.

Assuming that it is clean and the new paint is not hiding any major bodywork from accident repairs or rust issues, out here $12.5k would be a pretty good price for that truck w/4WD.

I usually check out NADA.com, KBB.com, and Edmunds.com for private seller fair market values and average the three.

I paid 12,400 for a 98 12v manual 4x4..with 187K

and I couldn't find anything in CA with all my options for that price

(admittedly I couldn't wait forever, but I had been pricing them for several months..)

Beware of Canadian cars with salvage title thats not available in the states...
happened to my friend...

but if its clean and a 4x4 I personally would call that a deal!
Better than mine...low ,miles

So what - for that kind of money you can afford to bomb the transmission. If you want to go fast - an auto is the way to do it.

A truck with that few miles should look clean under the hood and underneath as well. Not perfect but not covered in oil.
I looked at a 98 Qcab 12v a few months ago. About 118k had oil all over everything under the hood and underneath. Looked like a 250k truck.

Ok so I went today and I personally looked it over and drove it. The paint job isn't very good and the according to car fax the truck has been in 2 accidents no frame damage. Truck drove straight however pulls when braking also needs tires. The interior is really clean. Does it hurt the value that the truck was originally green and somebody painted it blue?

If the paint job is bad then deduct the cost of a professional paint job. Cost of brakes and rotors/drums?

Two months ago I paid $9,700 for my '98 2wd QC LB with 140k. It needed some routine maintenance and 2 tires, but it is rust free and the interior is like new.

I'd offer the guy $10k and see how he responds.
